MAME + boredom = fun!
My internet was out from about noon to 10:00, and since the internet is basically my life, I had nothing to do. So, I pulled out my digital camera and loaded up MAME.
I've taken short, low-res 15 second clips of me in MAME land on various boss areas on different games. They're all shooters, but maybe someone in here will be intrigued by my short vignettes. They're small Quicktime movies that average 2.5MB-3MB in size. Nice for both broadband and dial-up users. Our hero, orf, in 19XX-world fighting the level 2 boss! Our hero, orf, in Armed Police Batrider-world fighting the level 1 boss! (and no, the camera is not flipped oddly. The monitor is on its side) Our hero, orf, in Dodonpachi-world fighting the level 1 boss! (I was stupid and flipped the camera on its side to capture this, so the video is sideways. Turn your head 45 degrees clockwise to get it the right way) Our hero, orf, in ESP Ra.De-world fighting the boss from one of the levels! (levels are randomly selected) Our hero, orf, in Giga Wing-world fighting the level 1 boss! Our hero, orf, in Mars Matrix-world fighting the level 1 boss! Feel free to ask any questions about these games, as I'm sure some are completely unknown to some of you. I also tried taking pictures of ME/my hand playing DoDonPachi, but it didn't turn out well. ![]()

I play Mame daily, I love all the shooters you have mentioned. I don't like Armed Police Batrridder, but Do Don patchi is on of my favs. Even better with an arcade joystick.
Orf you should download Mame32k ( http://emulators.at/uomame32k ) for online mame support and we can play 2 player over the net. BTW I have the complete set of mame roms, both version .73 and .74 and will burn them on 3 DVDs or 17 CDs for anyone who wants them, free if you send me the blank discs and a postage for return mail. I have applied for the mame burners and I am just waiting for them to add me.

![]() I used to play online a lot, but I've cut back. I'm up for a little fun Dodonpachi or APB co-op sometime if you want. ![]() I'd love to have the complete set, but agh, 17 CDs! Quote:
What's really troubling about Cave shooters on MAME now... since like .70, the MAME guys really improved the Cave driver, killing off much of the slowdown (which is intentional for all those times where there are 800 bullets on screen and you need to dodge them all), and increasing the difficulty tenfold. I could always underclock the ROM, though. During the summer, I'd spend 2-4 hours a day practicing. Now I'll get in about 30-45 minutes a day. I'm still not very good; I can only get to 1-4 in Dodonpachi on one credit, when good players can beat the first loop and get to like 2nd loop, 3rd level on one credit. ![]() I've beaten Battle Garegga on one credit, though. It was EXTREMELY lucky, as I can't do it anymore.

Yeah 17 CDs is a lot, just think I downloaded each rom by themselves, at a time when mame.dk wasn't sharing roms (took 2 months to collect all the mame roms for ver .65. I now download all the roms each release so it is easy to stay current) I pefer to burn DVDs as it is way less work. The whole problem is those damn CHD games. Some of them are more than 2 cds big. Probably a guess would be about 10 CDs without the CHD files. Anyone can send me a PM if they want a set and we can work it out. I'll even burn custom sets (sets made up of only certain games), if people want. I am not very good at either of those games you listed. I love DoDonPachi, but find the game to be too short. APB I hate the controls, they are too loose for my tastes, so i don't play it much. My fav shooters innclude DDP, Areo Fighters, Strikers 1945 II, and 1944: the loop master. I will play APB if you want though, just don't expect me to be very good at it. Another thing, I use mame32k .67 and will not use a older version because I lose x-arcade support and I ain't gonna play with a keyboard.

Damn you, you have an X-Arcade. I play so often that the purchase of a stick is completely justified... it's just that I don't have the money!
Maybe I'll ask for one for Christmas. I can't play any Psikyo games because they freeze my system up for short periods of time. Gunbird 2 completely locks up my system, at that. It pisses me off, as I love the Strikers 1945 series. I dislike 1944; it's easily my least favorite 8ing/Raizing game. It's good homage to 1941/1942/1943, sure, but I'm still a sucker for the Cave-like futuristic style of 19XX.

If you get a X-arcade, make sure you get the USB adapter. I don't have one and the x-arcade messes up my keyboard. Does all kinds of wierd things, likke double typing letters, acting like alt or ctrl or shift is held down and the like. The USB adapter is 29.95 if you order it with the stick, otherwise it is an insane 49.95. Order it with the stick.
Too bad you can't play the Psikyo. I wonder what causes that? They play well on my system. What kind of CPU are you using?

It worked fine on it a long while ago. It just stopped working suddenly for some reason, and even after reformatting it still did.

![]() So, you have to have different versions of the MAME roms according to what build of the MAME core/kernel that you're running? I'm actually running a version of MAME on my X-Box and it seems to be having a problem running "Tron." I'm wondering if my library in my emulator is old, or if my rom is, or... well, you get the idea... ![]() |

Thee version #'s are just the release #'s, so .74 is the newests, but they took out all the games that are 2001 + because of some new rule of waiting 3 years before supporting game. Thing is many people like to play games, or are used to playing games like King of the Fighters 2001 and stuff, which work fine in ver .73. Those people are pissed that mamedev team took those games out of 74, so requests for 73 sets are common. So I maintain 2 sets of complete roms. One set has all the .73 roms and the next set takes out the 2001 + and adds the new roms which were added to .74. Mostly the roms remain the same, but mamedev team sometimes removes or changes roms. So most of the 73 roms work in 74, but a few will not pass the check (because they were changed soo you need a different rom.) and the new ones won't be there.
Orf, video cards means jack shit in mame. Everything takes place in the CPU, so as long as the video card is capable of displaying pictures on the screen, it should be fine.
