Post Rental charts see Xbox titles on top

Good news for the big 'ol box.

Gamespot:
"Rental charts see Xbox titles on top

GameFly.com rental list sees Xbox titles in six of the top 10 slots. Simpsons: Hit and Run and Soul Calibur II double-dip.

Xbox rentals show their strength with six of the top ten rentals for the week ending yesterday. Each multiplatform title's Xbox version bests its PS2 cousin by three ranks in every case.

And whither the GameCube? No titles on the list could be indicative of diminutive numbers of consoles in the home. Will a $99 GameCube help?

Most-rented games for the week ending September 28, 2003, according to GameFly video game subscription rental service.

Rank / Title / Platform/ Publisher
1 / Dungeons and Dragons Heroes / Xbox / Atari
2 / Simpsons: Hit & Run / Xbox / Vivendi Universal
3 / WWE Raw 2 / Xbox / THQ
4 / Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 / Xbox / EA Sports
5 / Simpsons: Hit & Run / PS2 / Vivendi Universal
6 / Soul Calibur II / Xbox / Namco
7 / Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004 / PS2 / EA Sports
8 / Otogi: Myth of Demons / Xbox / Sega
9 / Soul Calibur II / PS2 / Namco
10 / Disgaea: Hour of Darkness / PS2 / Atlus Co."

Well that would make sense with the X-Box being owned mostly by open minded 20 somethings who are likely to love computers and have internet. Did they have total numbers?

Sounds like a probable reason. I know just about every B&M rental report is dominated by the PS2.
A lot of those are multiplatform titles as well. I'd personally be more likely to rent a game on the Xbox if it's available for all three consoles, if for no other reason, just to keep the added clutter off my memory cards.
And in the case of Soul Caliber II; didn't that title sell the most on the Gamecube anyway?

Yes, or at least in the last numbers I saw. And yeah, the GameFly rankings are a bit misleading, if only because of the reasons stated. It's like posting that the XBOX gets searched for more online, but continues to trail in sales to the PS2 and be about even with the GameCube. You can find info from any one source to bolster one system. Personally, I look at Blockbuster's rentals as a more reliable indication. PS2 usually dominates, with XBOX and GC each having a couple of titles each.

The ones I look at are in the rental "industry mag" we get at work. I don't know what the source of them is though... never cared to note it.
