Super Star Wars Trilogy

I thought long and hard, and decided this belonged in Game Software, and not Star Wars, but if a mod feels differently, please move it.

Anyone remember Super Star Wars, Super Empire Strikes Back, and Super Return of the Jedi for the SNES? I recently dug out these old gems for the first time in a number of years and started playing through them in chronological order. They're more addictive than I remember!

SSW is great, but a little frustrating because of the lack of save or password features. SESB improved on the formula greatly by adding the passwords, and added a new level of strategy with the Force powers, though the levels tend to drag out a bit long. I remember SROTJ being good, but I haven't started it yet this time 'round.

Anyone else love these and care to discuss?

Funny you should mention these games. On the upcoming Rebel Strike, there will be a level that is very reminiscent of those SNES games. It's the Jedi training level and features Luke--lightsaber drawn--jumping from platform to platform. Here's a link.

Man, those games rocked. A buddy of mine and I spent, like, 3 days straight playing those one Christmas or Thanksgiving break, pausing only to order some pizza. Good times.

I've had good success getting them to work with SNES emulators on various platforms. Fun to revisit.

For my money, they are still the only truly complete videogame recreation of all (well, as much as can be expected) of the events of the original trilogy, and that's one reason that I loved them. I always hated that the Lucas Arts games made you play as these silly characters from the Extended Universe. Maybe RS3 will finally break that mold, kinda.

Wow that's cool! Someone at lucasarts must of wanted to pay tribute to those games because that makes me think of what super star wars would look like in 3d.

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, those games were fun.

But does anyone remember the 2 Star Wars games on the good old NES? They never made Jedi unfortunately, but Empire was one of the most difficult games I ever beat on a system filled with tough titles. And I remember being blown out of the water by the fact that Yoda and Darth Vader acually had.....*gasp* horribly digitized speech in-game! Sounded amazing at the time, just like the intro and color commentary on another old favorite, Konami's Blades Of Steel....

I don't quite remember the NES ones, but I loved the SNES Star Wars games. Riding across Tatooine in your landspeeder, with those gorgeous (at the time) Mode 7 graphics was fun.

What a difficult lot of games these were. I was never one to pitch the controller, but these games never failed to convince me to do just that.

Well, Super Star Wars has been known to make me pitch a few in my days, due to the lack of password. The others I never found too frustrating. Of course, I haven't tried "Jedi Mode" yet...

Played through ROTJ from start to finish yesterday. Gotta love the now-extinct Ewok "Yub Yub" song digitized over the final "Congratulations" scene.

I remember the NES ones, too, hunting all over the caves of Tatooine looking for shields for the Millennium Falcon. Funny, because 11 year old Frank didn't remember that scene being in the movie.

I remember playing that level on the old GB...man, that game was awful...most of the stuff they had you do made no sense whatsoever.
