Ok, so I've had an Xbox for a while. I've also had my home theater and my HDTV for a while. What I haven't had is the optical cable to hook up the HD AV pack to my receiver. Never really bothered with it, felt the pretty decent speakers of my TV was good enough.
Well, don't I feel like a bit of an idiot... I got me said optical cable today, and just finished a 2 hour session of playing Freedom Fighters, complete with sweet sweet surround sound. The enhancement to my gaming experience is indescribable! The full-bodied directional sound does increible wonders for the immersion and it is simply SO much better than I had anticipated! I always felt that surround sound was a very imporant and underrated part of a movie experience, but it's 10-fold so of a gaming experience. I can't recommend it highly enough. Sorry for the nonsense no-info post, but I just HAD to share. KM |

Isn't this where the Xbox naysayers come in and start droning on about "true 5.1" or some such thing?

![]() Really though, 5.1 is simply awesome for the XBox. It just sets the mood of certain games so much better than otherwise possible.

"Welcome to the party pal!"
In game 5.1 is quality. The first thing I bought after getting my XBOX was an optical set. I never play my XBOX without my amp on. Splinter Cell and the Ghost Recons use it well. Hopefully Rainbox Six 3 will take advantage of it too. Huzzah to in game DD 5.1! Last edited by MJZ : 10-21-2003 at 11:19 AM. Reason: Spelling. |

My favorite 5.1 games are Halo, Splinter Cell, MechAssault, and KOTOR.
And yes, it does make all the difference. A while ago I read an article that said good surround sound was more important than a high def TV for gaming, and I blew that off without even thinking about it. I then got a high def TV and thought to myself how wrong they were. That was until I finally got a surround sound system, and then I knew they were right. A good TV is important, but I think the sound system is oven more. It just... fills out the game so much more. Anyway, welcome to the Xbox 5.1 Party! Drinks are on the right, strippers are on the left. Enjoy... |

Well i have my advance audio pack too. I only tried it with Enter the Matrix. It wasn't too bad and the EX encoding on the receiver was a nice touch for the bullets. But i haven't played many times with the pack as i'm a) too lazy to switch my optical cable with my dvd player and b) too poor to buy another optical cable
But i shall make the switch eventually as i do want to use my system with the 5.1 DD. But PLII isn't too shabby either.

You know, I could get into it again but I'm afraid Ruined might be lurking......so I'll just say, yes - the surround sound offered by the XBox and it's games really adds to the experience.............and yes, saying that hurt more than you can imagine. (and I ain't no "naysayer".....so there!) :p |
