Rebel Strike Impressions

Picked this up last night at EB and played a few of the missions.
  • Revenge of the Empire is a gorgeous level. Graphics have definately been improved in this title.
  • The on foot missions (only played one) is annoying. The camera isn't done very well and you can't move the camera around. Stormtroopers sometimes fire behind you and you can't see them when you turn to fire.
  • Speeder missions after Revenge of the Empire was a little difficult, but note that I wasn't really trying.
  • The absolute best part of this game is the Lucasarts company logo and Factor 5 logo in the beginning. They have outdone what they did on Rogue Leader.

Note, that most of my comments are premature because I've only given it about 30 minutes at most of play time. I'm curious as to what you other Filers have thought.

I will probably wait on this until it hits around $30 or so. I am very interested, though. Unlike many, I did not find RS2 too hard, and actually loved the game very much.

I just picked this up tonight and hopefully I'll find time to play it. I'll add my thought to what others think tomorrow.

I'm interested in reading what people think. It comes out in the UK in a couple of weeks (Nov 7 I think) and it could be the game that decides whether or not I buy a Gamecube (I fancy a new toy ).

I'd appreciate it if anyone could post their thought's on the Rogue Squadron 2 co-op mode incorporated into Rebel Strike too.

My first impression is uncannily like Ispep's. The same few levels and opinions: on foot missions are HORRIBLE. The Logo is really neat. Can't wait to get into it more.

If the best part of the game is the logos.... I am pretty speechless. I hope you didn't pay $50 just to look at 2 company logos.

Its not the best part, but its creative.

I've spent more time on the game, played through the Speeder level and found that in 3rd person its harder to control than if you play in 1st person. I liked the 1st person view on the speeder better. Though it does play similar to the Super Star Wars levels with the landspeeder. You just move left and right around obstacles. The other mission you can choose after you finish Revenge of the Empire puts you in the B wing and has you disable transports.

Well, I haven't had the chance to see much of the game. My roommate and I played the cooperative Rogue Leader for hours. That is so much fun with 2 people. It finally feels like a team effort rather than sending two wingman out. You have your buddy and you each have a wingman. Plus it is harder than the original to compensate for having two players. It is great strategy: one person go for the AT-STs, one person go for the Walkers. Good stuff.

I played the game yeterday at Hollywood video game store and its the one where you walk around on Hoth (the snow level) and it was pretty cool.

Ill be getting this game as soon as it drops down in price, but its mainly going to be for the 2 player! Ive been dying for a 2 player Rogue Squadron for ages! Infact, Id get it now just for 2 p but I have too many games to beat already.

After a bit of time with the game (roughly two hours), here are some of my initial thoughts.

-The opening logo is pretty good the first two or three times, but after that, it gets skipped. Nothing if not creative.

- As Ispep Aloc said, this game does look great. The graphical step up from Rogue Leader is noticable.

-I agree in part with the comments regarding the foot missions, but I do enjoy the fact that you actually get out of the vehicles and go on foot to go to an objective or to a speeder, tauntaun, etc.

-The Death Star Rescue mission is probably my favorite so far even though you're on foot. The movie clips from Episode IV look good and fit right in with the action.

-Several events and locations during the missions help to bridge the gap between the original trilogy and the first three movies. I liked the idea of the game providing some continuity.

-I always like seeing new vehicles and fighters that aren't shown in the movies. So far what I've seen (without giving anything away) is pretty cool.

I just played the level where you take out the cloaking devices on the Executor - great level...and it also unlocked the arcade games (or to be more specific, you get to be Darth Vader checking out the stand-up arcade games on the Death Star!). Overall, I'm not blown away by this game - I have yet to get to a level that is as mind-blowing as Rogue Leader's Battle of Endor. I'm sure it's there, but I still have a way to go...

I am really enjoying this game. I think it's great how they bridged the gap and how the missions flow pretty well.

I dont mind the on foot missions, I agree that the camera is a little funky, but its nice for a change.

I dont know, I've loved all 3 Rogue Squadron games, I just feel like I am there sometimes.

I have played all the levels and bonus levels except for Endurance. The only one giving me the most problems is the one with the new Tie fighter. I got two Best All Around metals on Sarlacc Pitt and Escape from Bespin.

I really like this game. I agree with Louie. I don't mind the on foot missions even though it is a bit clunky and the camera is bad, the graphics are excellent and make me feel like I am actually there. Plus it is a nice change. I can't ask for anything more in a Star Wars game. Between this and Rogue Leader these are definately the definative Star Wars experience.

Some of these levels look so authentic! Especially the AT-ST walker level on Endor. That is some fun stuff. How the Ewoks help out is so cool!

And with the added cooperative and versus mode, it doesn't get much better than this. The game offers so much variety and multiple levels that you'll want to play it over and over. The metal system keeps me coming back for more even though I figure I won't get better than a silver on some of them.

I gotta check to see if I unlocked the Arcade because I beat the Executor level yesterday.
