Mario Kart: Double Dash ONLINE!?!?!

Even if Nintendo has no plans for online play it looks like soemone else does.

October 27, 2003 - Sadly, this isn't an announcement that Nintendo has finally jumped into the online realm. Instead, a hardworking team of programmers has figured out a way to bypass Nintendo's online reluctance. Similar to Xbox Connect, the "Warp Pipe Project" uses a Windows utility to fool the GameCube into thinking it's on a LAN network when it's actually connecting through the Internet. All you'll need to get the GameCube online is a version of Warp Pipe, a broadband adapter, router, Windows enabled PC, and a LAN enabled game.

Currently, public testing of the alpha build is available for download from Warppipe.com and will run with Kirby Air Ride -- and eventually Mario Kart: Double Dash!! and 1080: Avalanche.

Chad Paulson, project manager, said in a conversation with GameCube Advanced, "We look forward to delivering a continued commitment to all Nintendo fans who want to play games online. This is just the start of a very fun product."

IGNcube will bring you more info on getting Mario Kart online as the Warp Pipe Project nears completion.

If it's anything like XBConnect, I wouldn't expect anything groundbreaking. I've all but given up some good officially online Nintendo games.

Oh, and this is more of a software issue... moooooving.

Nice idea, too bad nintendo has stopped shipping on their network adapters since they were hacked into being used for playing downloaded games.

And hey, XBC aint bad at all, lets you play all kinds of games online (original or otherwise), and even lets you play some games online that dont have XBL but has system connect (HALO, Brute Force).

Last I heard they were going to resume shipping on the 27th (yesterday.) *checks* I don't see anything on their web site that would indicate I can't order one.

Lag, constant DCs, no chat (unless you're sitting at your computer)... it's far from good. Although I have to admit I haven't played on XBC in at least a year, when I did, it certainly wasn't a good experience.

Of course, this is exactly what I expect from this outside "tunnel" program as well.

I'm just looking forward to Mario Kart: Double Dash, period. In a drunken stupor I challenged the self-proclaimed king of Mario Kart to a duel so he's been hyping me up ever since.
