Ok, Im a non sports nut that likes to play sports video games. Could someone please explain to me, in layman's terms, what offsides is?

It's when a player without the puck has crossed the blue line into the offensive zone.

When you are on offense, the first player on your team to cross the blue line into the defender's 'zone,' must have the puck. If he does not have the puck and has crossed the blue line into the 'zone,' he must leave the 'zone' and let the player who has the puck pass the blue line and enter the 'zone' first. If the player without the puck fails to leave the 'zone' and the player with the puck also then crosses the blue line entering the 'zone,' offsides will be called.
