Simpsons Hit and Run!

Just rented this sucker from BB for a few days and goddamn if the commercials aren't true! It really IS the best Simpsons game to date! Not that being the best out of that group is a noteworthy achievment, but it's really quite good! The descriptions of the game being a sort of GTA-type game are pretty accurate. It's a mission-based game and has an explorable, interactive Springfield the likes of which were only hinted at in that Simpsons driving game.

I finished the first three levels and half of the fourth. The only slight negative I've got is that some of the dialogue gets repetetive, but that's probably because I sucked and had to repeat missions alot to finish them. Challenging, but not overly hard. What really kicked ass was depth of the game. Lots of inside jokes and references to old episodes and little gems stashed here and there made it extremely fun to explore around and look at stuff. It's all there - Frostilicus in Apu's freezer, little Blinky flipping around in the water near the plant, Burns' mansion, the plant, Bart's treehouse, and best of all - all original cast voices made specifically for this game! The story is decent, and the time and effort put into this game shines through.

And it's about goddamn time! Anybody else play this yet? Any thoughts?

I totally agree with you. And for those reasons, we actually returned this game for Voodoo Vince. I wanted Mrs. J to have "her" game (Mechs ain't cute enough for Mrs. J). She enjoyed the Simpsons, but the part she liked best was having Homer jump on the platforms (the "wacky" races got a little repetitive after a while). So I thought a "platformer" may be best for her: she loves Vince.

That's not to say it wasn't fun: we were blown away by the Springfield environment, and the game is damn funny. We also dug the music... it is like psychedelic go-go tracks from the 60s! The "Indian" sitar jams in Apu's store is classic too. But, beyond that, we found the car control frustrating and the timer, at times, a bit harrowing (remember Mrs. J is a bit new to these things...)

I haven't played it yet, but I am planning on picking it up with Return of the King on Thursday. Didn't anyone enjoy playing Road Rage, I thought it was also one of the best Simpsons Games.

Road Rage was fun for a while but lost it's appeal after a few hours. They could've done something more with the two player mode. That would've helped a lot.

I played Hit & Run for about an hour just now. The problem with this (and just about every other Simpsons game) is how much it relies on reference jokes rather than gameplay. That doesn't work for me. The only motivation I have to play this game is to collect everything. (Damn those gamer collect-a-thon addictions! Damn them!)

First good Simpsons game since that arcade game way back when.
