Ruined, I'm glad you finally picked up a PS2. If you're anything like me you'll get the most play out of Frequency. I've had that game for over a year and I'm still trying to beat the final expert stages.

What really spurred me to buy it was that a lot of cool games were going OOP and that PS3 is going to be backwards compatible. Plus now I can play some of my Dreamcast favorites for this generation and the next at the minimum without having to keep it hooked up for a handful of games. Found all of the above new, but some of it was *really* hard to find.

Ruined, Bill Gates called and said he was VERY disappointed in you. I think he even used the word "traitor".

Well I just voted and bumped your insanity level to 75% - YEAH!!!!!

What happened to "too much clutter" ?!?!?!

Actually, if this had been posted today and not last night....I would have smelled an April-Fools-Rat !!!

Oh, and don't forget to check out the AWESOME fulltime 5.1 surround outta your new toy - it may only utilize 2.5 of the 5.1 speakers, but it's really the same thing!!

The PS2 has retired the Dreamcast, hence the amount of consoles (2) and clutter remains the same.

OK, so here are my initial impressions after some quality playtime.

First of all, I have it only hooked up with the standard AV cable, I've got a Sony Svideo AV box otw.

Hardware Build - Not very impressed. Buttons seem flimsy, and the controller/memory card/AV ports all seem pretty rough when trying to insert/eject things. Sad that I may actually have to buy a horizontal stand because the freaking thing moves when I hit the eject button otherwise.

Hardware Interface - Well, first thing that struck me was, who was the genius who decided to put the Power button on top and the eject button on the bottom? Second thing that struck me was how lame the red and blue memory cards look sticking out of the front of the console. Almost makes me want to return them and pay $10 more for black ones - but then I wouldn't be able to tell them apart, which is worse.

Software interface - Again, a big letdown coming from XBOX. Main menu is sparse to say the least. In fact, I'd wager to say Dreamcast had a better interface than PS2. Another thing that stinks is that the console does not reset to the main menu by default when ejecting a disc, and requires a reset. Lame.

Video - With the standard cable its pretty atrocius, jaggies and dot crawl all over the place. I assume this will be fixed when I switch to Svideo. I hope

Sound - Big letdown from XBOX. But for the type of games I'll primarily be playing on PS2 it will do.

But despite all this there are some cool games for PSX/PS2 I'd like to own. Lets jus hope Sony can do a bit better on the hardware front with PS3.

That is sad... I know I always saw jaggies at my friends house but they weren't quite as bad as he had a smallish TV. This thing sux

I have the official Sony AV box on order, hopefully that will help cuz right now text is pitiful, looks like ants crawlings everywhere and its blurry too. I have a feeling you are right though. Composite video artifacts alone don't look THAT bad I can live with the jaggies, I jus hope the dot crawl is fixed... My tvs comb filter is a POS so it is a possibility.

Worst part is having to reset the frigging POS every time i want to switch games... Why can't the PS2 just go back to the main menu like every other console instead of requiring an eject/reload AND a reset to play the next game? This is basic functionality Sony left out, and is like playing with cartridges except not.

In all honesty, I plan to dump this thing as soon as PS3 comes out, I just wanted to buy the games before they all went OOP, and I'm not gonna have 20 PS2 games sitting around with nothing to play them on.

P.S. -- I've gotten more used to the controller, but it is still poor compared to XBOX's Controller S. And the D-Pad is horrendous for fighting games (tried SFA3).

Well personally, I think you will see a marked improvement with svid. It may not fix the dot crawl, but "overall" the picture will look lots better. This is my experience on a 27" TV, a 36" TV, a 70" CRT front PJ and a 86" LCD front PJ.

As far as the jaggies go, get half in the bag first, then play. The jaggies will become less jagged, and much smoother to the eye! It - hic - works fuuuur me - hic -

Oh, and by the way, make sure you pick up RE or SH.....that is now that you're getting used to the "controller"

And if I may ask...have you woken up all sweaty in the middle of the night from nightmares of Bill Gates hovering above while slowly sucking your soul from your body?

Dunno why you guys are so hard on this game, seems like a fun puzzle game once you get past the weirdness.

re: Shitty video quality
ok, so I got the A/V box and used my Audioquest Svideo cable, and the video quality cleaned up tremendously, no dot crawl... Though a lot more jaggies than xbox, and even Dreamcast still, as I expected (and something I always critcizied the system for). Still fun though, and my library has grown even more... Watch out!

As I pat myself on the back, I say: I WAS RIGHT! WHOOP WHOOP!!

I just had to say that, especially after finding my fish dead about an hour ago, I needed a pat on the back!

Glad the picture improved for ya Ruined.

And what the hell does "ph33r" mean? (fear???)

Actually, I misposted, I meant to say "no dot crawl" not "not dot crawl." Editing now. In other words the dot crawl was fixed and you were wrong. Sorry. The main improvements probably were the elimination of dot crawl and overall enhanced clarity.

The gameplay consists of playing the same two levels to find coins (?) in order to unlock bosses. That'd be cool if the bosses were interesting or challenging, but they aren't.

Overall Stretch Panic is just a pile of bland bosses and two bland stages.

Ah, you must mean this definition listed there:
bastard:
a pile of sticks

With a pile of sticks I could make a fire to burn a Gamecube with, which is something I would most definitely do considering my uncontrollable yet subtle Gamecube rage.

ENOUGH ALREADY! No more than 2 edits per post! If it ain't a rule it should be because I can barely keep up with my reply!

Aww hell, you're right....a pile of sticks, how silly of me not to read additional meanings for the word. Well, hows-about I and all the cubers out there get together and take this definition to heart:

Stick 16 votes

i) Kick

As in 'stick' your a$$ !!!!! :p
