Fight Night 2004 - EA Sports
Last night I picked up Fight Night 2004 for the PS2 & after about ten hours straight my thumbs are completely useless. This is the best boxing game I've ever played since the days of Rocky on the Colecovision with the Super-Action controllers. The use of the analog sticks on the PS2 to control all of your punches was such a great idea & it really adds to the realism. Plus the sophisticated features on hand to generate your physical appearance is a fucking riot!

I picked up the Xbox version on Thursday and my hands are killing me, yet I can't put the game down. The total punch control took a short time to get used to, but once I got it down I was bobbing, weaving, and picking apart all comers. There nothing quite like landing a perfectly timed counter uppercut for a flash knockdown. I wish the Xbox version was online enabled so I could see how I stack up against others, but as it stands, I'll just have to take out all my friends.
The career mode is decent and I've made my way through the Heavyweight division with Roy Jones. The training modes are pretty challenging, but go a long way in helping familiarize the game player with the total punch control scheme. This is definitely the best boxing game I've ever played, bar none. Although I will admit that I have a soft spot for the Punch-Out series. As far as the posse feature, there's not really much there. You can choose one scantily clad lady(you have to unlock them and then purchase them) to escort you to the ring. Along with that you can buy ring entrance effects like fireworks and laserlights if you choose. It doesn't add much, but it's a nice touch to a very fine presentation. |

No live support. Oh well, still haven't beaten Rocky or Black & Bruised yet. Fight Night 2005 is only a year away
![]() The Rocky sequel is going to have Live support, that should be cool. If the company who made this wasn't EA, I'd give them a pass, but their constant lack of support for XBOX Live results in my constant lack of patience with them. And yes, I could buy this for PS2 and play it online but that's not the point, XBOX Live is where its at and EA should get with the program.
