Easy answer: rarely.

When I had XBOX Live I had more frustration than fun. If it wasn't someone making fun of my name, it was someone screaming for no reason... or an 8 year old cussing because he CAN... or people kicking me out of games because I'm winning... or people just being generally annoying. I rarely get along with people in the "real world", so I guess I shouldn't expect on-line to be any different.

That said, when Live worked it WORKED. I had some very fun Wolfenstein games where everyone just shut the fuck up and played. I had some cool chats with Ikea_boy and other random people while playing Tetris... I loved my Splinter Cell extra level...

All in all though, I found myself exiting the Live section and playing the one-player game all too often unless a "friend" was on-line... and thus, I am not in a huge hurry to re-purchase the service.

Gotta love it! Especially Counter Strike

Playing against 13 year olds and wasting them. 40$/month.

I like online roleplaying games. I used to play Everquest a lot. I also like playing a few FPS games, but only of private servers with friends. I also like playing playing Mame32k, nothing like playing 2 player Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat II, Strikers 1945, etc.

I voted Me!!!, however I don't play to often online. I used to play Unreal Tournement with a few friends from work once in a while. I haven't played Everquest since shortly after Vellious came out. My Mame32k games don't happen too often anymore, just from a lack of people to play with (hint, hint...anyone up for some 2 player arcade gamming one of these days? Send me a PM). When I play games like Age of Empires I get my ass kicked so bad that I never went back. I am not very good at most multiplayer games that I don't enjoy myself playing online so I usually play the solo missions.

I can shorten my post to one sentence:

I like online games, but I hardly ever play games online.

I really enjoy the online play on xbox live. I've got a group of about 10 or so people that I play with on a consistent basis. If you don't have a bunch of friends, "live" can suck big time for many of the reasons that Moogle stated.
