I'm definitely looking forward to this one and I'm sure I'll buy it as soon as I can, but I just have this sinking feeling that it just isn't going to be that good.
My main concern is that its going to end up like Morrowind and be too wide open. I stopped playing Morrowind because it really lacked direction. You had to really work to stay on your main quest. I just can't tell from the previews if its going to be like Kotor which, I felt, was an excellent way of doing the side quests. Or if its going to be like Morrowind where it was a seemingly endless number of side quests where you could get lost from the main adventure in a matter of minutes. Only time will tell I suppose. |

You should check out the IGN preview
http://xbox.ign.com/articles/537/537930p1.html Sounds pretty awesome to me, and it went gold today ![]() On another note, Morrowind kicked butt. Part of the beauty was that it was non-linear and you didn't have to stay on the main quest. In fact, you could have lots of fun playing the game without ever even finishing the main quest (or starting it) due to all of the side quests, guilds, interactivity, etc - just getting lost in the Morrowind world. We already have plenty of linear RPGs by Square, I hope Fable falls more towards the non-linear side.

I don't know why people get this Chicken Little complex about things. Can't be healthy, or life fullfilling. Just let it be what it is, and don't try to force it be what you think it ought to be.

I wasn't talking about the game affecting your health and life outlook. I was talking about the negative anticipation, the worry you seem to have about the game. Why waste the energy and wallow in the negativity? Just let it come and be what it is. No amount of you worrying ahead of time is going to change anything, so why bother? Just chill and let it come to you, then enjoy it for what it is.
I think a lot of people would be happier with their lives if they spent less time wanting things to be the way they aren't and instead worked on accepting them for what they are. |

I'm worried about it being anti-Morrowind,
From Spong.com According to various reports cropping up overnight, not least one from an IGN staffer, Fable has already been completed in around nine hours when played straight through. That has to be something of a blow to the expectant fanbase already embracing Molyneux’s latest creation. The same IGN writer reports that around 22 hours of play can be gleaned if all side quests are completed, a figure matching claims made about Fable’s longevity on the run up to its release. However, the RPG community has come to expect a benchmark of around 40 hours, often with no option to ‘skip’ certain aspects of any particular title. More news breaking this morning sees several unsubstantiated reports claim that the game can be beaten, with side-quests, in an astoundingly brief 12 hours, which is amazing if true. We have contacted Lionhead for a response, though none was forthcoming at time of press. When we hear back, you’ll be the first to know. |

IGN has a review up and gave it a 9.3
They said the main game takes 15-20 hours and that you can get up to 100 hours of gameplay out of it. We shall see.

Yeah the IGN review clinched it for me. I like the idea of being able to just burn through this game quickly or take your time and see everything. I was burned out by RPG's at the end of the 16-bit generation because they took entirely too much of my time. I'm glad to see Fable change this a bit. This will be on my Christmas list this year.

Very strange review. Even though the IGN review gave it over a 9.0, it really seemed to give a lot of negatives - short game, no real "death", entirely way too easy, very linear (i.e. good vs. evil doesn't really change the outcome). Also did say a LOT of good things about it, but given the number of negatives, I'm surprised the review is as high as it is.
I'll wait to see other reviews, but I believe that I'll be waiting until this one goes platinum. |
