Good games for a 5-year-old.

I'm purchasing a GameCube for my 5-year-old nephew for his birthday (to ensure cool-uncle status, since I never had the luxury of a cool uncle), and I need to know a quality game or two to buy with it, preferably multi-player, so his old man and little bro can get in on it.

I'm clueless here. Help me out, folks.

My soon to be nine year old nephew seems to have an affinity towards Sonic the Hedgehog. Maybe try those?

My younger nephews like all the mario type games, Dragon Ball Z Budokai, Godzilla... stuff like that. Smash Bros would be aother good choice, as would Mario Kart.

Yeah, I was worried about getting him anything too complicated. Hell, all I had when I was 5 was Combat. It was a hard lession to learn that the Bomber, despite its massive size, was no match for the Biplanes.

Mario Kart and Smash Bros. sound like great choices for multiplayer with kids. Nintendo still does this better than anyone else.

Yeah, that's why I settled on the GameCube.

Well, that and it's $50.00 cheaper than the Xbox and PS2.

My ten year old sister really like the Crash and Spyro games, SSX Tricky, easier stuff like the Tarzan game, maybe Super Monkey Ball even if he wouldn't be that good at it

Ape Escape is a PS2 game.
Pikmin is a strategy game and the kid is 5 years old.
Pokemon Colisseum has a ton of reading.

Smash Bros. is an excellent choice.
Luigi's Mansion is a good choice, unless they scare really, really easily.
Kirby's Air Ride is good and not as competitive and cut throat as Mario Kart or as complex controlwise and track designwise.

My nephew was playing FF7 when he was 5 or 6. He was playing The Sims when was 8. RPG's (and text based games) helped him learn to read faster than normal kids. Those are like novels with interactive pictures.

Mario Sunshine is good but it has some tough spots... also it's one player. Ikea can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you need to go through a lot of the harder levels of it to beat the game.

The best one I can reccommend is Super Smash Bros. Melee, which is easy to just sit and play, you can just smash buttons if you want, and it's up to 4 player.

Kids are smarter than all this Nintendo fluff offers. My nephew is only five & he can kick the shit out of all of you in any SSX game. This dude knows all the moves, where all the secret stuff is & he'll beat your ass while talking to his mom & munching on cookies.

Disney had a line of Sports Games out a while back. I definately agree with SSBM.
