Exclamation Official E3 2005 Thread

Post your predictions now, and then discuss the event as it happens and afterwards.

Its all about XBOX 360 Take a look at these leaked screens of the MTV press junket taping

Live headset will now plug into the bottom of the controller (which you can kind of see in the controller pic)

Oh and PERFECT DARK 0 should be awesome to see in action.

I'm sold on XBOX 360 at this point, since XBOX was my choice this generation. I'm looking forward to the next Elder Scrolls, Halo, Splinter Cell, and many other sequels, as well as awesome stuff like Perfect Dark 0. Basically, what I'm looking for is PS3 to impress me so much I consider changing my mind, or getting both.

better quailty, right from the site

I'm really not liking the 4:3 aspect ratio.

XBOX 360 will require 16:9 in every release.

Here's another pic (this one from IGN's XBOX360 site) with a comparison of size dimensions:

Aesthetically, it is an unappealing as the original Xbox, IMO (concave lines work for soup bowls, not consoles). On the plus side, it has a metallic-silver colour (which should blend in nicely with my HT gear) and a smaller footprint than the original PS2.

I'm more interested in seeing game demos running on both the Xbox360 and PS3 at this year's E3 before I make a financial pledge.

This will be my second year going to E3. Last year was great but it was also mildly devastating to play all of those great games and know that many were a year away from being on the shelves. This year, I think, will be worse.

With three new consoles on the horizon (I've already seen and touched Xbox 360. It is very cool!) and tons of new games, I'm going to be very sad at the end of the show. You know that feeling of ennui you used to get the day after Christmas when you were a kid? When all the presents were opened and that day you'd looked forward to for so long had passed? That's what the post-E3 world is like to me.

Who knows, maybe Pfizer has got a booth at the expo this year and I can get my hands on a gift bag of Wellbutrin.

Anyone get the feeling that Sony has something up their sleeve for the PS3? We know a lot about the XBOX 360 by now, and we've heard plenty of rumors about the Revolution, but very little about the PS3. The idea that it will be vastly technically surpreior than the XBOX 360 comes from a few industry insiders, but that is vague at best.

The XBOX 360 looks to be an online-centered, media hub for the future fo the living room. It looks very cool and has some neat features, but we've likely uncovered most of them by now.

The Revolution has some wild rumors like LCD controllers, tilt-sensitive controllers, and even 3D projection technology. We know Nintendo is up to something, and likely it will be something pretty cool.

The PS3, however, we know very little about. Will it feature a hard drive? TiVo like features? Online-always like the XBOX 360? Or will it pack new features we have no idea about? It almost certainly will work with the PSP in some fashion.

I am most interested to hear about the Revolution at E3, but I think Sony might well prove to have some of the biggest surprises. MS has shown their hand early, so E3 will be Nintendo and Sony's show to steal.

I'm not sure if this counts as "up their sleeve" but lots of different news sources (click for Reuter's article) are reporting that Sony and Toshiba are very close to coming to an agreement on the HD-DVD format.

If this comes to fruition, the PS3 may be an HD-DVD player out of the box. I know that it likely would've been a blu-ray DVD player already, but to have it support a true industry standard is a much bigger deal than a standard only a few studios and manufacturers will support.

I don't know how big an impact this will have on their sales, but the PS2 being a DVD player has had a huge impact on its sales. It remains to be seen if HD-DVD can achieve the same mass market appeal as regular DVD.

That could be the trade off... Most 20-somethings are going to eb buying a PS3 or XBOX2 and if they could play HD-DVD right out of the box, that could be amazingly beneficial to the movie companies, helping HD-DVD get a broader base right away.

This is a good point. It certainly helped the PS2 and could in turn help the PS3 a great deal. Nintendo has yet to announce their format, but it will likely be one of their own (such as Cube's mini-DVDs).

Which I think Nintendo will always continue to do. They always market themselves as games-only, and to them this means no media hub, no multiple entertainment features, just games alone. While many consider this to be their "downfall," it makes them the most unique out of the bunch. Yeah, proprietary stuff can bog a company down, but it's worked so far.

Somehow I doubt that Sony is going to commit to a HD format yet. I thought Microsoft had already said their new 'Box would be "completely HD," which to me sounds like they'd have to either choose an HD format or support both. In either case, whatever Sony does wouldn't matter.

Sony has already committed to Blu-Ray for the PS3. Obviously this new hybrid format probably throws a wrinkle in that, so we shall see. Still, they're at least a year from launch and have some time.

Microsoft has never committed to a HD format, so it will be interesting to see what they do. Releasing a system this fall that wasn't the hybrid format, but simply Blu-Ray or HD could be a big mistake as it would end up proprietary for the XBOX 360.

Silicon Knights has announced they are working on a next-gen title that will use the Unreal3 engine. I hope we see this at E3. Eternal Darkness was one of the best games of this generation of systems, ranking right up there with ICO.

Well you definitely got that one right. If Sony has chosen, than Microsoft would be plain stupid to pick one or the other (which I wouldn't put past them acting stupid). Frankly I could care less, but at least it's something to talk about. I just want to see Sony die a quick, painful death in everything, so any disadvantage they have makes me smile.

MS is pulling out the big guns! Final Fantasy XI is coming to 360.

In other news...
