Far Cry: Instincts Xbox Exclusive

From Megagames.com
Quote:
Ubisoft announced that Far Cry Instincts will be available exclusively for the Microsoft Xbox. Far Cry Instincts will ship to retail in September 2005. There had been initial plans for a PS2 version of the popular, tropical paradise gone wrong, game but they seem to have been withdrawn. For those of you wondering what the game would have looked like on PS2, have a look at the image to your right (larger image available from Screens tab above).

Many fans of the PC game had claimed that a PS2 version would sacrifice a lot of what the game was all about; impressive visuals. Others had suggested that XBox was not exactly cuttng edge as far as current standards go but the truth probably lies somewhere in the middle; the combination of MS Green with the superior graphical abilities of the XBox console must have convinced Ubisoft that both consoles are not a viable option.

In Far Cry Instincts, you are Jack Carver, a man in the wrong place at the wrong time. Outmanned and outgunned by an elite mercenary army, you will adapt and evolve, or else succumb to the most harrowing situation of your life. Every deadly weapon, vehicle, and predator skill you possess must be unleashed to survive the biggest, most complete must-have shooter of 2005. Game features include:

It’s open season in a 100 per cent open environment: Do whatever it takes to exterminate the mercenaries in any situation. Take cover in the undergrowth, set traps, kill by stealth, battle from extreme long range and gun-mounted vehicles and fight in close quarters or through the wilds of the island.

A real arsenal: Plunder an arsenal of responsive, realistic weapons and vehicles including ATVs, gunboats, hang gliders and much more. Turn the mercenaries’ stockpile into the instruments of their own destruction.

Unleash your predatory skills: Survive the furious and inhospitable wilderness by unveiling your true nature: develop your vision, track the enemy’s scent and become faster and stronger.

F.A.R. AI: Outsmart the mercenaries’ complex Full Action Response AI. Snipers, stalkers, scouts, and grenadiers react to your tactics with coordinated strikes from all angles, distances and terrains.

Create your own shooter’s paradise: The battle continues with deep multiplayer and level editor features. Build custom maps in real time, upload them via Live Console Systems and stage ultimate deathmatches against your friends.

I really enjoyed Far Cry (other then the lame ending) so i'm looking forward to this release.

Yeah Far Cry did rock it was a great game to help pass the time untill Half-life 2 came out. I think I'll be forced to play it and see what the port does to the game.

The graphics look like shit compared to the PC, but I guess that should be expected. I didn't like this game after the midway point, those stupid trigen things are a useless plot device and it's way more fun to fight humans in the jungle.

Hmm. Bad timing basically makes this a no-buy for me. It's too close to 360 and I'm already getting Rainbow Six: Lockdown that month, which will probably be my last Xbox game before 360.

I forced myself to get through the game because I really wanted to like it. After the initial encounter with the trigens, the game picked up again, but, in my opinion, you didn't miss much.

I agree. Very bad timing for this release. The PC version came out a year ago and only now they're getting around to the console port, and so close to the release of the Xbox 360? I would imagine Xbox game sales are going to start tapering off over the next couple of months as peaple start saving their pennies for the 360.

Yeah haha, I'm actually struggling to do the same thign right now. I got into it at the beginning and got to the trigens, but then it hit a wall (with more trigens) and I dropped the game for about 4 months. I am finally picking it back up again and forcing myself to get through it. I really like it, the game is so well done, but I hate trigens and I hate fighting them. Just a few levels would have been fine, but they never go away. I loved killing the mercs, that's the best part of the game.

I'm also waiting for the next Rainbow game to come out. These are just classics to me, every one and I need more.

This game is great, even in comparison to the PC version which I have played and also own. This game has a strength in the story, whereas the PC version had the story as it's main weakness. The first person storytelling is really awesome, and the game feels very fluid and right on a console and controller. The aiming is Halo-smooth, and the graphics look great in wide and 420p. Not PC level, but good anyway. I can see now why Gamestop said this was the preffered version of Far Cry... Yay!
