PC The next big PC shooter... F.E.A.R

I just got done playing the demo of ]F.E.A.R and my god, its amazing. Ive heard alot about it from reading, but if the demo is any indication, this will go above and beyond everything that ive read thus far. The graphics are very nice (almost looks like its on the Doom3 engine, with ALOT of physics tweaks)... but thats not the main attraction in this game. The two biggest things are going to be the enviroments (you can blow the living shit out of almost anything, and while doing so lights fall and blow out, and smoke will fill the room until you can barely see anything) and the overall creepiness of the game (which in most games is very meh, but the demo alone made me jump once or twice.. wait until you see the girl for the second or third time, i garantee you will at least get a little jump from it). I personally cant wait for this game, and it seems to be a very good reason to upgrade my pc, as of right now with my Athlon XP 2600, 1.3gb of ram, and my Radeon 9800 Pro it only seems like it will push the game along at a bearable clip at 1024x768 and under... which doesnt look like it does the game any justice.

In any event, download the demo (link above) and post what you think... I cant be the only one who is dying to play the rest of the game.

upgrade time... time to get a 6800gt, heard fear uses sm3!

i will download later...

to be honest though, to fully max out this game at highest res you need no less than a 7800GTX + Athlon 64 3500 or better.

I just finished the single player demo, and I have to say that it caused me to yell out in surprise and, yes, fear twice. The beginning was creepy, when you saw the little girl run across ahead of you, but I didn't get scared until near the end when I went to descend down a ladder, and as I turned around she was right behind me. I screamed like a bitch. But, as if that wasn't bad enough, when I got off the ladder and turned to see a man coming for me that hadn't been there when I looked down a few seconds before, I yelled out again. I laughed afterward, but for those few moments I was genuinely frightened.

Good job.

This sucks....for me that is. Why do the "scare the bejeezus outta you" games have to be first person shooters? I HATE FPS's!!!!

They don't. For me the scariest game ever made was Silent Hill 2. The rest in the series are supposed to be just as scary, and Fatal Frame I've read is frightening to boot. Try those?

Silent Hill was scary as hell. Doom freaked me out a lot and I would say that it frightened me. I don't know if I've ever really been 'scared' by a game per se though. It's even less real than movies.

Aliens "vs" Predator scared the shit out of me the first few times I played it. I remember the game came with a coupon to get a free pair of underwear because they claimed the game was so scary you'd shit yourself.
I digress.
I'm downloading the single player demo for F.E.A.R. as I type this. It's almost 700mbs so it's going to take awhile. I'll try it out on a dual core system I'm developing right now that happens to also have a 6800 in it.
I'll let you guys know how it is when I do.

Just got done with a quick round of F.E.A.R.
The game itself is a total resource whore. I was playing it on a P4 3.0Ghz processor on an ASUS 945 board with 768mb of RAM and a Geforce 6800 graphics card and the game ran a bit choppy at 1024x768x32.

Game play itself is pretty cool but since I'm pretty burned out on FPS it's hard to impress me. The in game physics seem to be the best ever. Anything that isn't nailed down can be interacted with. During a gun battle a shelving unit was knocked over forcing one of the enemy dudes to the ground. I made the mistake of shooting at a fire extinguisher that was on the wall which immediatly exploded taking my health all the way down to almost nothing. (I wish I had done that a few seconds earlier when the enemy was standing in front of the damn thing)
I'll play with it a bit more but I may increase the processor a bit to see how it runs. I initially had just 256mbs of RAM in the system but the game would only go as far as the intro movie then it would lock up.

I'm looking forward to this game as well. I was definitely impressed with the demo. Good thing that game designers finally figured out that you can't walk down a ladder while still holding a gun with both hands

I'm running it at 1600X1200 with everything turned all the way up except AA (I've never seen the need for it). It ran fine except it would stutter when entering new areas, much like the original Doom did when you only had the minumum required 4 megs of RAM. I got a bonus at work, so thought, why not get another gig of RAM (for a total of 2) just to see if it'd make a difference. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it runs flawlessly now. Before, there was always a noticeable lag when entering the door that leads to the room with the security monitors. Now there's not a stutter in the whole demo, not even the end when all the missiles are coming at you. I'm happy!

Played the demo but wasn't real enamoured by it. It was pretty though. If I want a good scare game I'll play Aliens vs. Predator (1 or 2)

I'm normally not a fan of FPS, but I'm thinking this one may be a great one to show off my new PC. I'll probably be picking it up.

Yeah, it is... and wtf is up with companies putting the games in sleeves instead of fucking jewel cases? Ugh. I guess I should be happy that it at least came with an instruction book.

Yeah, the comic is pretty...light...

Heh, Best Buy carded me in order to buy it. I asked if she was serious, and she said "yes, I'll need to see your ID." --I was tempted to say, hold on, let me get my mom, she's waiting in the car..

I don't think I've ever been carded to buy a video game before, too funny.

Well up to the 5th section, so far its great... I just hope there is a good bit left, as it hasnt exactly taken me a long time to get to where I am.

Oh, and for those wanting to play multiplayer, there is a new patch out already.

Patches in the first week of release can be taken 1 of 2 ways.

1. The game is extremely buggy and the developers are going to Microsoft there way through the run of the game.

or

2. The developers released the game to early with to many bugs and to few features and are going to Microsoft there way through the run of the game.

I remember the days when 1 patch was it even for crappy games. Lucasarts never had more than 1 patch, 2 maybe at the most.
