Can't get Carmageddon to play on Windows XP !

I was just wondering if anyone out there knows how to get the original Carmageddon game to work on a windows xp operating system. I'm sure most of you out there haven't even heard of this game but I absoultely still love this game. I can get the game to work without hi res but it looks horrible and very pixelated. Can anyone help me to get this game working with the hi res batch file ? I've tried "compatabliity mode" but it still won't work. Anyone know of any patches or fixes ? Thanks.
P.S. I wish they came out with this game for the cube. (maybe do a racing game arcade pack ?) Just a thought. Wouldn't it be cool ? Any feedback is welcome.

DOS.

You might try DOSBox.

Carmageddon. What an awesome game. Gotta love the "Cunning Stunt" bonus.

Was the original on DOS? I could have sworn both were 95/98?

I think the first Carmegeddeon was a DOS 6.1 game, where it would play on '95 or 98 I think it was originally a 6.1 game.

Well, Wikipedia says DOS, but I suppose it could be wrong.

Remember, Windows 95 was basically a pretty UI layered over MSDOS 6, and many of the games of that time were still DOS based.
