Got the SE finally.

Had the game for awhile & was able to sing & do the guitar at the same time.

DAMN the drums are not easy to play. The build quality is pretty good imo. I don't know how you guys are breaking the kick pedal. Its quite heavy itself & doesn't need to be pressed down hard at all. I just rest my foot on it, lightly tap down & all's good.

Took me awhile to figure out I needed a game controller turned on to use the RB Mic. WTF?? Anyway it doesn't feel like plastic junk neither. Nice build quality & much much easier to nail 'em lyrics.

I want to try the Fender it came with because it looks like it has a few tone adjustments (ala real fender) & wonder if these tones actually tweak the in game songs to either rhythm, bass, lead etc etc. I think its also a pretty cool idea to put 5 frets on the top & on the bottom for solos. The solo frets look like they are closer together which might make soloing much easier.

Currently,

On mic, I can get through songs on Easy, maybe medium.
On Drums, I can "barely" get through songs on Medium. Should probably try "easy" first.
On Bass... ahh there isn't a career for this, is there?
On Guitar.. 4 songs away from finishing the game on Expert. (Doubt I'll get throught those though)

I've downloaded 40 or so songs as well from live.. err all of 'em so I got me in total 99 songs.

On a side note F*** EA! They are a CANADIAN company & their MAIN office is a 20 minute drive from where I live. No excuse for them not to have this set ready for canadians back in November.

You need a controller for the person using the mic for menu navigation. If you do decide to do a solo tour as a vocalist ....well you can sit there and pretend that the mic is a wii controller but I'm pretty sure that menu navigatrion is gonna be next to impossible without a controller (guitar or otherwise) hooked up.

No there is no bass solo tour although I'd like to do a bass solo tour I think its unnecessary.

Tried the Fender on GH3. Doesn't work.

I also tried the echo & other effects for it on RB & get no change in sound what so ever. The Gibson is much better anyways so I don't care, heck even the explorer (sp?) wired guitar is better imo.

I can't imagine people who have just bought RB only are getting their thrills with just the Fender.

No the fender will absolutely not work with GH they mapped the buttons differently for it. I'm sure its the effects switch on the Strat that messes with it.

If people who have never played GH and have never used a different guitar controller probably won't know how bad it really is. It looks great and feels good when you have it slung around you shoulder but actually putting it to work in the game it was meant for is a lost cause. But thats from some one who knows there a better way.

The Rock Band controller is balls compared to the GH3 one, purely because of the strum bar, I just couldn't get used to it at all.

On a happier note, the Oasis song pack is a dream come true for me! Though, I do question the inclusion of Wonderwall, they should have gone with a more rocking song like Lyla or The Hindu Times.

Yeah this weeks and next weeks dlc for RB is about exciting as watching paint dry for me. Oasis maybe big in Europe but 1 song that I recognize and don't even care for isn't gonna do it for me. I'm hoping for something worth while for the 5th of Feb.

Well i'm hoping they release more New Pornographers stuff for download for the game. I have never bought content for my games but when i get this game (hopefully in a month or so) i would surely buy their pack. . . if they release one. Just release anything from their Twin Cinemas album and i woud be ever so happy (Sing Me Spanish Techno, The Jessica Numbers, Jackie,Dressed in Cobras) I would of bought it on Monday if i weren't broke from buying a new mattress for myself

Sinse I can't pass DRUMS on medium (last song, 3rd set ) I have downloaded all the songs available. I don't have Oasis thou, that must be a fairly recent offer.

I am a bit annoyed about the GH3 guitar being detachable. The neck is getting loose & isn't as sturdy as the white GH2 guitar.

Oasis isn't just big in Europe. They've sold quite a bit of records in the US and I was really happy to have a pack from them. I liked all the song selections too.

My new kick pedal finally arrived today so me and the GF can get back to full on rocking. We've been spending the week doing just singing with each of us choosing songs for the other to sing. Although she likes to give me challenging stuff that I've never heard before while I go easier on her.

Derb - assuming you can acquire the dexterity to finish medium drums, wait till you have to play just about the real drum tracks on hard and especially expert.

I don't see how a non-drummer could play some of the expert tracks without just practicing them forever.
And if/when they could play them, simply get them behind a kit, have them learn how to hit the drums & cymbals properly, and they're ready to play in front of a crowd.

Of course, it's hilarious and pretty interesting to see these guys on YouTube scoring perfects on expert drums, even, but their fills are completely unrhythmic POSs.

They can learn the parts, when the notes are given/required, but can they "feel" the music and play organically?

Yeah when I'm playing with friends and the fill parts come up for the drums, I always say before we start playing I will say "skip it" or "hit it" to get the drum star power. You get no extra points for the fills and since its the only way the drummer can initiate star power theres no use in a crappy fill that will more than likely throw the rest of the group off.

The guys doing the expert drums on youtube have got to be actual drummers. I know one or 2 of the videos I've see the guy was a real drummer you could tell just by his technique.

oh, and while its on news stands and 7-11's, the latest issue of OXM (with Turok on the cover) has a free DVD with 3 'free' rock band tracks on it. just pop in the disc, click a couple things and the 3 songs will copy to your hard drive and be playable in-game. Songs include Super Sprode by FreezePop. wheeee

and yes, I'm a tad iffy on your new sig there Mr. Derby

I saw that sig. YA BASTARD!

The 3 OXM disk songs really not worth the price you pay to get the magazine.

* Freezepop — "Sprøde"

* Bang Camaro — "Rock Rebellion"

* Count Zero — "Shake"

The Freezepop song thats in RB and GH 2 both really blew in my opinion and Bang Camero I ain;t real high on either. They are a Kiss rip off and when you model your sound after one of the greatest rock bands ever and don't do a good job at it well the sond to some is great but is rehash to me.

Its funny how the DLC for February is announced week to week but in OXM they announced the schedule for march.

March 4 (Thrash Pack):
At the Gates - "Blinded By Fear"
The Haunted - "Shadow World"
Evile - "Thrashes"

March 11:
Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Simple Man"
Bad Company - "Shooting Star" (cover)
The Police - "Message in a Bottle"

March 18 (Nine Inch Nails Pack):
Nine Inch Nails - "March of the Pigs"
Nine Inch Nails - "The Collector"
Nine Inch Nails - "The Perfect Drug"

March 25 (Metal Pack):
Iron Maiden - "Wrathchild" (cover)
Black Sabbath - "Supernaut" (cover)
Metallica - "Fuel"

omg. I didnt think that I was interested in any packs coming out in Feb or March, but I'll get the NIN pack. now I want a Garbage pack. And I'm enough of a My Chemical Romance hor that I'd get their pack in half a sec as well.

I woke up to the radio playing State Of Shock's "Money Honey" on Sunday and I instantly thought it could be one of the greatest RB songs ever. MMMMM... just listen to that guitar, those drums, and of course those mellow, breathy lyrics... I think I'm in Rock Band love.

I keep saying Deep Purples "Knockin' at your back door" would be a perfect song too. But any songs that get requested now would probably take 6 months to come out.

Before RB was released Nevermind was an album name that was out there as a full album release and the big one however was The Whos "Who's Next". Theres supposed to be a load of Greatfull dead in store too but I can definitely do without that.

Theres just so much crap that goes into getting these songs into the games let alone full albums. I'm still waiting on some Def Leppard. ::::: sigh :::: one can only hope.

Oasis was the latest pack I downloaded & can tell ya the more songs you have downloaded, the longer the wait will be before you can play the game.

Right now it takes almost a minute for all my DLC to be added.

Not to big o deal I guess especially if we get FULL albums.

Master of Puppets PLEASE

(1st off - I have no problem with homosexuals)
Let me be hideously uncool by asking you straight-up:

what is the deal with people linking to flamingly gay stuff as humor on the internet nowadays?

See, parody/exaggerated humor is funny when the content is so extreme that it wouldn't/couldn;t be real.

But pretty much everything in that video is present at extreme gay events (SF Gay Pride parades, etc). So it makes it harder to laugh at parody when the video is showing actual homosexual activities.

So what I can't figure out is:
Did you post the link because you like the video and the activities it displays? (Probably not would be my guess).
So if you like the video because of its exaggerated nature, please explain to me what I'm missing - how is people acting gay and doing homosexual activities funny, when that's exactly what the more outrageous homosexuals do?

This is a serious (unfunny) question that I hope I'm making sense.
In other words, why do (supposedly straight) guys think that gay videos are funny? Secondly, if that's not a gay video, why are straight guys doing gay things funny? At what (comedy) point is there no difference between a straight guy acting gay and a gay guy acting gay?

yowsa. I have to run for right now, but I'll get back to you on all that... i think.

link changed to a new youtube vid.

I just thought the video was uncomfortably funny

and if it were women doing all that to men, there would be no issue with it ...

Well I listened to Money honey and liked it. I tried to listen to the other song and got about half way through it. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Thats songs to me at least is as bad as The Konks song in RB.

Oh and I'm not saying that cause I'm a homophob I'm saying it cause I really don't like the song.

However esc is right. If it was a male/female in what I can only guess to what was happening in that vid I'm sure there'd be no complaints. But thats for a different thread not a thread about a video game.

i'm in total agreement with you. it is a terrible song and intentionally bad/funny, but it would be fun to play and sing and drum because of how it is constructed.

The way most of the songs in RB are fun to play on all the instruments I can say that much. My favorites right now are the 2 Coheed and Cambria songs (even though 10 speeds a cover its still good) and Bostons Foreplay/longtime, on Hard even. I'm a mediocre hard player on guitar but if the intro to Foreplay/longtime doesn't train you on how to move your fingers around on 2 note chords I don't know what will.

Of course on the other end of bad note charts Green Grass and High Tides and Flirtin' with Disaster are on my shit list. Mainly because those are the 2 songs preventing me from passing Hard solo tour on Hard.
