As far as your gripe with the HO/POs.... I haven't hand any trouble with the RB hammer ons and pull offs. As a matter of fact I hit more of the RB ho/po than I do or did in GH 2 or 3. Horizontal notes... not really sure what you mean by that one??
Sorry but no way is RB better at "gameplay" than GH3 with regard to guitar playing.

Better songs less distracting back grounds, better features for a group. DLC which contributes to the games longevity, which leads to more game play puts GH to shame. So yeah I'd say that the everything about RB over shadows Guitar Heros 1 trick pony. But of course thats my opinion. I suppose you could ask everyone else on here that has played both which is better.

Why? both have there pro's & con's

RB's con just so happens to be guitar. At first I didn't mind missing a few notes here or there cause the songs rock! Now that I have played for months now, I still miss notes because of the lame placement of Ho & Po's + the note bar is almost half the size of GH3 because they went horizontal instead of round. I might be coming off a bit strong on this issue but aside from that, it is a great game & a better multi-player game than GH for sure. No argument there from me. Same with DLC. I have downloaded 70+ songs already & plan to get more.

I too have not touched GH3 in months. It's all RB. We played GH3 for about a month and then RB came out and it's been no play time for GH3 since.

I got most of the Priest tracks and got all of the Cars album, its 80s music I'll take what I can get. If the Nirvana album never shows up I won't shed a tear.

The full albums I'm betting are a little more tricky to licence than just the single tracks. In one of the post that announced Screaming for Vengeance Harmonix confirmed only 2 other albums, The Cars and The Pixies album called Doolittle. Never hear and thing good from the pixies an from the looks of that album it looks like more slop. I'm sure Whos next and Nevermind are going through serious licensing red tape.

However this week we do get this -

"Margaritaville" by Jimmy Buffett (master - new original recording)
"Cheeseburger in Paradise" by Jimmy Buffett (master - new original recording)
"Volcano" by Jimmy Buffett (master - new original recording)
"Indestructible" by Disturbed (master)
"Inside the Fire" by Disturbed (master)
"Perfect Insanity" by Disturbed (master)

What?? you've got to be kidding me? I mean... What?? Jimmy Buffett? Nobody likes Jimmy Buffett except for frat boys and alcoholic chicks from the south!

I'm happy that I've stopped downloading the scraps that Harmonix is throwing out and I'm waiting for something good.

Yes the Disturbed tracks will be 80 points for a limited time but the JB songs are still the standard price.

How long do you think it'll be before they update the peripherals for RB?

Harmonix has said updated instruments will release alongside Rock Band 2 this fall - but current instruments will work perfectly with the game.

What worries me is if current DLC will carry over to Rock Band 2

Well Wave of Mutilation is enough for me to never want to hear any more Pixies songs. When they said this album was "coming soon" when they announced Screaming for Vengence I knew this would be a no brainer not to buy.

Don't think anything can save the gameplay of this, not even these fancy add-ons.

This game needs an enema!

Mad Catz is typically first to market with 3rd party accessories. Thats why god gave us people that review these things. However the mic does look promising. Having all the controls on one unit instead of having a mic plugged in an a controller turned on. The bass guitar looks cool to but I haven't run across a situation where I would need to strum up and down at the same time......... yet.

I've played all the GH's up to when I got RB earlier this year. I haven't touched Guitar Hero since. GHIII was the worse in the series in my opinion. It's significantly harder at the lower levels then the games Harmonix did and I found the boss challenges to be nothing more then a distraction. I doubt I'll ever buy another Guitar Hero title again simply because Rock Band is just so much more fun. This week is Aerosmith, we're getting GH: Metallica later on, rumor there is a GH:Van Halen in the works as well as GH:IV - World Tour which is their Rock and rip-off. It's obvious Activision is trying to flood the market with Guitar Hero sequel after sequel which in my opinion is going to do nothing but do more harm then good for the series.
I recently read all the songs you downloaded for GH:3 will NOT be compatible with GH:4. However, Harmonix just said all the DLC for Rock Band will be compatible with Rock Band 2, due out in a few months.

The Who finally make their splash in Rock Band. Though not the way people originally thought.

I have a question... does the Xbox360 kick pedal work with the PS3 drums? do they use the same little teeny cell headphone jack type plug?

I'll be going over to a friend's house soon who has RB for the PS3, but I'd prefer to play with my modded 360 kick pedal on his drum kit.

I believe they do have the same headphone jack. I can't find anything that confirms it but from what I've read there are both the same pedals.

I have a choice to make. Previously, I found GHIII with the guitar for $70, so we bought that for my son's birthday. My birthday is actually the same day so my wife is offering Rock Band as a joint gift assuming that we return GHIII. What does everyone think? It sounds almost like a no-brainer to go with Rock Band, but I'm not 100% sure.

I agree RB beats out GH3 multiplayer for sure but not single player. Depends on what you think your son's favourite instrument would be to play. I play the real guitar & found GH more fun than RB because the mechanics & note placements on higher difficulties to be more accurate. RB is fun to play in groups & sometimes online too. I don't get as upset missing notes in RB when there is a full house over. The in game tracks & DLC is also much better than GH.

Go with Rock Band & buy a wireless GH3 guitar.

I say get GH3 keep the guitar and take the game back. Trust me you WANT that guitar. The game.... mmmm not so much.

Plus with RB 2 coming out soon you'll have basically 2 set lists you'll be able to play in 1 game. Harmonix commitment to extending the life of there games through DLC should be enough to make this very easy decision.

He's right, the GH3 guitar is by far the best one out there

WAIT for Rock Band 2.
You will be kicking yourself in a couple months for getting RB1, I predict. (if cost is an issue)

Rock Band all the way. Just wait for Rock Band 2. It should be out by Sept 30 and will have quieter drums and an improved guitar. If you have an Xbox 360, the 500 songs in total that will be available for Rock Band 2 by Christmas make this a no brainer. If you have a PS3 or Wii then you won't be seeing Rock Band 2 until around Christmas for those systems.

In some ways it would be nice to wait. But, our birthdays are this month so that pretty much rules that out. I did order it from Amazon as it was $149 with free shipping and no tax so I think I'll be happy.

Thanks for the advice (even though I didn't really take it).

Rock Band 2 for the 360 in September, all other consoles in November.

Many of the songs on Rock Band 1 (not the DLC but the songs on the disc) will be transferable to Rock Band 2 so it's worth getting Rock Band 1.
