Soul Calibur is like... the only fighting game I like.
I hope the PS3 version is as good as the 360 version... I preffer PS3 when they're equal to begin with, and Darth Vader exclusivity makes it all the more awesome. |

I will get this game for just this reason. I always enjoyed DOA better, but fighting as Vader, screw it! Ill play. But, now my question is, are the Soul Swords laced with Cortosis?

Then it wouldn't be a fighting game. It would be a push 1 button and kill your opponent game. Thats how most fighting games work anyway. Of course the thing about having Vader in there doing all that jumping and spinning around is its good for the kids to watch but Vader was not an agile character. He was bar-b-qued after all.

Well one of the other issues was Lucas wanted the actors to wield their lightsabers like they were extremely heavy...I think if he could go back and do the OT over (please no!) he would change that. I think with how agile Grevious was and him being robotic, Vader could still be agile.

Well i bought the Xbox360 version and i like it so far. So far the AI is either easy and simple to beat. I have won the final stages of some story mode games with the guy simply flipping off the stage. Then you can have the extremely cheap as hell AI opponent that sometimes wont even let you get off the damn ground to move (Jedi apprentice) I haven't done any online battles yet but i look forward to doing so once i get my skill up. There is surprisingly NO RUMBLE SUPPORT on either PS3 or XBox360 version of the game.
I honesty i didn't really notice until someone brought it up on a thread on the IGN boards but is disappointing not having it optional. So if you are a fan of the series i think you will enjoy it and for other so-s fans i think its a worthy rental.

Another is when they are knocked down, he force chokes them back in to the air hovering in front of him, then impales them on his saber and spins around with them attached and launches them off it. Pretty slick. The difficulty level is probably the biggest discrepency in the game. I will go through arcade mode and handle the first three guys without any problem, like they are on super easy mode, then the next guy is the polar opposite. He is all attack and block and they read my own blocks far too well. Very happy with it so far.

I'm not big into fighting games like this, but I might pick this one up. If I do, I'll probably go with the PS3 version. I'd rather have Vader that Yoda.
Is Vader, his apprentice from TFU and Yoda the only SW characters in either game? It would be pretty cool if they had Darth Maul on there.

I played at a friend's house last night and really enjoyed the game. And I love that Yoda is too small to throw. Let the cheapness begin!
Fighting games used to be my thing; I was unstoppable a MKII back in my arcade days, so it'll be nice to finally experience competitive online fighting. And it'll give my COD4 disc a chance to cool down.

Ok so I may be a total dumbass here, but I can't seem to do a freaking critical finish. I have gotten it so that the enemy has their health bar flashing red, which I believe means they are in a soul crush, then I hit the button I have mapped to A+B+K+G which is supposed to do perform the critical, but nothing happens.
Anyone have any ideas? Also, how do I do an impact?

Vader is on the PS3 version, Yoda is on the 360 version.

I did online today for the first time as well. I did ranked match because I wanted to get the 2 consecutive win honor. First match went fine, got paired with a slightly higher level 1 person to my level 1. Then got matched with a level 9 and got my ass handed to me. So I started over and got ranked with a 25.... something seems wrong about that. So then I figured out how to do custom filters and set it to the 10 and under rooms and that helped me get my honor.
BTW, I don't believe you can earn towards honors with versus (100 blocks, # soul crushes, etc) as you could make yourself cheat to get the honor, but it does work online. So just get a buddy to match up with you and then have them do what it takes to "earn" the honors ![]() Easily got the blocking one while we were both experimenting with all the critical finishes. The Create a Soul and Tower of Lost Souls features are probably the biggest replay value for the game. I still can't figure out how to best ring out people on the required floors or do the gate knock downs.

I still can pull off the Critical Finish. I press my ABXY at the same time and still nothing happens
Although i did just get my 20th achievement for the game Tried a few online games and got my ass handed to me but some cheap asses. I kicked through 2 fights with ease and then lost the next 3 to lose the match because they just twirled their weapons in place. Come and fight me like a man and not a cheap ass

I can do the critical finishers in training mode, but I can’t seem to get enemies into soul crush during actual play? What triggers soul crush? And why can’t they come up with grownup names for these things?
![]() P.S. Yoda does not suck. He's cheap, but he doesn't suck. ![]()

Here's an easy way to test and perfect the concept of a soul crush and critical finish.
Go to training Pick Yun-Seong set opponent on CPU and then go to the soul guage options and set theirs to empty. Press forward and spam B. He will do some very strong attacks that the CPU will almost always block. Keep doing that until their soul guage blinks red. This means they are nearing soul crush potential. They will need to keep blocking. Keep doing that until You see the enemy surrounded by a cloud of red lightning. Another indicator is that their soul orb will burst and will make an audible bursting sound. (This is called soul crush) You will have less than a second to hit your A+B+K+G button. This performs the critical finish. This particular characters B combo hits twice. Sometimes they will go into soul crush after the first move of the two hit combo in which you won't be able to do the critical, just keep trying. The main thing this teaches is how to recognize how the crush happens and the timing required to perform the finish. Once you do this you can then find the best combo for your favorite characters. Another nice way to test it out is to get online and do versus with someone that you know and just let them pick a character and hold Guard while you both practice blocking and testing all the finishes off. That way you earn towards your honors. If anyone wants to give it a go, send me an invite and add to buddies and we'll try to get something coordinated. PS name = chernobogs.
