Burnout: Paradise

I was just curious what you guys/gals think about this game so far. I’m not sure I’m entirely on board with the new open world design. I feel like, to a certain extent, that they’ve overcomplicated what should be a quick and easy arcade racer. However, I’ve only played it for a few hours. Perhaps it’ll grow on me.

I haven't played beyond the demo and my conclusion was to wait till it drops in price.

Demo was fun, online is a great idea. I have a buddy who is really into it, but I probably wont join him until the price drops like Moonraker.

The demo kind of turned me off from actually buying the game, but then i read reviews and fan comments.Overall pretty good and then someone on the IGN boards was talking about how fun it was to play. Sure enough i had enough store credit to get the game at BlockBuster and bought it. I will admit i too don't like the traffic light to play event open world setup, but by gawd this city is huge. I was playing online with a friend today doing some of the Challenges and i was seeing parts of the map i didn't know existed from my 2 days of playing. I kind of miss the races that had a pretty good set track to race on but i tend to think i will love this new setup once i know more and more of the Paradise City itself. Also the big thing that almost kept me from buying the game was the lack of a Crash mode challenge. Now you can activate it really anywhere in the Showtime mode and the crashing is fun as hell. I kind of miss the exploding car from Revenge but aiming your bouncing wreck around for 1000s of yards into cars and buses (no tankers )is pretty damn fun too. Hopefully i will be seeing some of you guys online soon so we can take on a few of the 350 challenges the game offers. That doesn't include setting up a race, revenge, and showtime event between everyone.

So as a fan of the series since Burnout 3. I will once again say that don't let the demo scare you away from this game. As they have a ton of shit to offer you to do offline and online.

I love the game... I do wish it had a "retry" option, especially on the last license where the goal is to finish every single event. That said, that's the only flaw with an otherwise perfect game...

I love this game too. I ended up buying it on the cheap ($40) the other day. A local game store was selling it used for that price. I couldn't pass it up.

I've been enjoying it, though I'm concerned it will get a bit tedious after a while.

It may also be too hard for casual gamers, or maybe I just suck.

Which license? I thought the early ones were super easy, but I haven't played around with Burnout License much yet... maybe it gets a lot harder then.

I'm on my B License now. I just suck at racing as i sometimes try too hard finding the shortcuts and screwing myself in the overall race. I'm now sticking closer to the pack of cars and do soem takedowns now and then. Once i see the finish line on my radar i'm pretty good at keeping my lead and knowing where to go. So like i sid I'm getting better but i wish they had more Takedown challenges (my fav)

I found a good strategy is actually to take a different route from the main pack when possible, then you don't have to deal with them ramming into you and such. That could be me though.

I think I lost a handful of races in the whole game this way... There was one bruning route thing I kept losing, but that was because the car sucked. All in all I would say the game is dissapointingly easy, but like I said, as soon as I got my Brunout License I took a break, so that level might be hard as hell.

Does the AI cheat in Burnout: Paradise the same way it did in Burnout 3? At first I loved that game, but eventually the cheating AI soured it for me in a major way.

So far they seem legit. If you have a huge lead in a race you keep that lead. I did this in a race and crashed twice and i was still able to win a race because of the huge lead i had built.

I get lost too easily.

The stunt runs seem hard, but maybeI just need to use different cars.

I like the takedown challenges the best too, and I find those to be pretty easy.

The Showtime crash mode is pretty fun, but I think it would have been nice to include the crash mode as some of the actual events.

Nice! This game just moved a few notches up on my to-buy list.

Thanks.

That's how I felt about the "Need for Speed" games, too. You could have a spectacular run, no mistakes, and at the end you just barely win buy the thinnest of margains. Next race, you could crash for most of the way, spin out, get lost, but if you recovered by the last lap, you might still have a chance to win. They sacrificed reality for competitiveness I suppose, but I didn't like it.

Every racer on the planet now uses "rubber-band AI" but Burnout Paradise does a much better job of it than most. Like Bob says, if you have a huge lead you probably need to screw up pretty bad to lose it.

Honestly, the few times I have noticed heavy handed rubber-banding was slowing down lead cars so the player can catch up.

I haven't noticed it with Forza 2, but maybe you're right. Good to know that Burnout: Paradise isn't as insanely unbalanced as Burnout 3.

This game has definitely grown on me, but I still find myself getting bored with the game play. I liked the old menu system better and I find it frustrating that I cannot retry the same event without having to drive all the back to the respective intersection.

And I miss crash mode and the more aggressive takedowns.

I too miss a dedicated CRASH mode as well, SO do many reviews i have read for the game who suggest maybe making it a downloadable content thing late ron. Sure it woud be awesome but it should of been there int he first place and i don't want to pay too much for it. Anyways the real fun in this game are the online challenges. Which can be anything from 2 players needing to do 10 barrel rolls each, crash into each other over a bridge and many others. Plus you can do races with other online buddies who might be better to play against then the AI. I actully haven't done the racing online yet but i ddi do the challenges in a 2 player mode with an IGN friend.

Maybe we should try to setup a time for everyone to do this. Plus my Live subscription is just about done and i think i might get the camera bundle for the extra enjoyment of seeing my face and others after a takedown
