I wish it were free. When my launch Xbox crapped out, I was still under a warranty - but not one that covered them sending a box my way. When I got my second one it has a disc drive that didn't open. So then they told me I should extend my warranty for $60 dollars and I did.

I bought the extended warranty with the console at launch for $60, and as a result of the RROD errors my warranty now runs until November 2010 bumper-to-bumper. Not a bad deal IMO

I wouldn't mind so much except the turn around time is outrageous and I'm afraid I'll get a defective one back like last time.

If its any consolation my launch one RROD'd a couple of months ago and the turnaround time from first phone call to getting it back was 3 weeks. I got my original console back repaired, and it has quieter cooling. Perhaps I got one of the "Opus" boards? (Falcon board w/o HDMI port to fit in Xenon case)

Will get around to it eventually. I have 2 consoles. The newer one doesn't boot-up with red rings all the time. Actually not often at all. The other one is bricked so I def will get that one taken care of.

I also found the Heliport. Its located on the map too for easy nav.

Right now stuck on the mission where you go to an abandoned hospital to collect coke which is ofcourse guarded heavily but thats not the best part. I got through all the dealers, (15 or so), got the coke, & than you are completely surrounded by S.W.A.T. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy. I have 2 attempts at this mission.

First, (pure luck) made it out of the labyrinth hospital & actually made it to a vehicle before getting shot down cause the car was indeed locked. Second attempt, didn't even make it out of the labyrinth err.. mean hospital.

edit

Forgot to mention, I took the helicopter all the way up & jumped out when I was above water. Apparently you can free fall thousands of feet into water & live.
Neither of those gave me problems, nor do any shooter missions, of which there are many. I think the trick is to actually turn off auto-aim and manually target... the auto-aim seemed lame to me and I turned it off, use only fps-like controls, and I actually think it's easier... your view isn't constantly snapping from one thing to another.

I actually have a lot more problems with driving missions... have failed a few of those, just not keeping up with someone. The shooting missions I don't think I have ever failed.

Heh, that's funny.

Shooting missions are hard for me, but any of the driving stuff is a snap, even with a six star wanted level, out running the police seems to be easy.

As horrible as that looks it is kind of impressive how high they allow people to fly in whatever version of gta that was. I mean usually there is some kind of green house aroung levels in a game that restrict how far you can go. Apparently there you can just go......... up up and away.

Congrats.

I do use the auto aim but I might try switching it off for those missions because of 1 main problem. The auto aim targets anything. So if you have to cap a bunch of dealers & there are civilians walking around, sometimes the auto aim will highlight them while you are being capped by the enemies. I'm not a huge fan fps games. In general, I think most are a joke. GTA branches all types of gameplay so its cool. The amount of cursing in the game was a real surprise to me. I'm amazed at some of the dialog that got through to the end product.

My only real nitpick complaint about control is the rear view button. Someone was real high when they decided to make it R3

You don't have to turn auto aim off. If you are playing the 360 version which is much better control wise. Just pull the right trigger half way and you can aim where ever you want. I think it was in one of the tutoral texts that pop up at the start of the game.

It annoyed me having to hold it halfway down... and like I said, the auto-aim felt both too easy and annoying at the same time. I think the game is ten times better with auto-aim off.

And derb, why is FPS a "joke?" I can see if it's not your thing, but what makes it a joke?

And I've heard 10 times worse cussing in movies like Pulp Fiction.

FPS = "Doom" with better graphics

If you've heard more cussing in a 2 hour flick than the game, you havn't been playing much. 2-3 hours of game time makes films like Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back easy on the ears.

It's much cleaner than equal time with Deadwood!

The cussing is silly, it's all very cartoonish, it's pretty much a parody of itself, --definately a parody of the perception the game has. It's very meta.

That's so completely not true it made me chuckle... Doom was mindless running and gunning, which some FPS still do, surely, and I don't see why that's a joke, but there is so much more to most FPS now-a-days.

My brother let me play the game yesterday, and the first time I went to pick up Michelle for a date, I decided I would kill her. Just for fun because I wasn't going to be saving the game. So I assassinated her with a shotgun. But she got up, and all it said was "Michelle has been scared off." And then she said she was scared. Umm, she shouldn't be scared. She should be dead. I tried it again with a rocket launcher, and she still wouldn't go down. What a terrible game.

She's essential to the story... very few characters are like that.

Yeah... they do something similar in Oblivion, where the character only goes unconscious instead of dead. Personally I call bullshit on that. I much prefer the Morrowind way where the character does die, but you get a warning saying you've killed a quest important character.

Part of why I play sandbox games is the seemingly unlimited number of choices they give me. And by not allowing me to kill a certain character, they remove one choice. I'd prefer if they'd let me choose to just ignore their warning and go ahead with the game without being able to finish the story.

For a first playthrough chances are I'd just load an old save and not kill the important character, but for secondary play throughs it's nice to have the option.

Disclaimer: I haven't yet played GTAIV so if there's some extraneous circumstances I am not aware of then never mind. My above sentiments still apply overall, but I suppose it's possible there may be instances where you simply CAN'T be allowed to kill a character. Although right now I can't think of one.

I agree and complained about that with Oblivion as well... the problem is games are more mass-market now, and thus dumbed down like all other mass media. Sadly a large percentage of players are too stupid to realize killing important characters could fuck their game up, even with a message.

I can't tell you how many people on the Morrowind forums back in the day were like "I killed the lord of the country way back... am I screwed now with mission X? THAT'S BULLSHIT!"

I think a fine line has to be drawn. Ultimately how do you know if it is a important character. Especially with huge games like Oblivion or GTA IV. I mean that's great if you get a message after the fact but that would then entail frequent saves. I also play a shitload of games so I really don't playthrough games multiple times so if I killed someone an hour into the game and then 15 hours later I can't further the story I would be pissed.

It has to do with consequence. Why did you kill them? If you want to run around and cause crazy havoc, do it, but don't save. If you want to actually play the game and save it and randomly kill people for no reason, you should accept the consequence that it might ruin the main storyline for you.

Exactly. And if you get a message, as I feel you should, then you only have to load an old save. Sure, if you're not a frequent saver you may lose a few hours of gameplay, but again: consequences.

Ive read that you can actually ride the roller coaster in the game, but when I search around the roller coaster its abandoned, as in it dont run.

So, is this just some dumb rumor started to get me to run around looking like and idiot, when in fact you cant ride it? Clue me in.

And if you can in fact ride it, how do I?

Thanks

I've tried. The closest I got was walking along the tracks before the cops killed me. I think everything in the park is closed & nothing works.

You need to locate the main power grid for the Park first. Then, while standing in front of the switch, close your eyes, click your heels 3 times together and say: There's no place like home, There's no place like home.

Once the power comes on, enjoy the ride!
