You can also "ghost ride" a vehicle while going super fast.

I jumped out of a car just before it totalled a police cruiser.

Ok I'm starting to get really pissed and am ready to trade this game in. I have played for at least 4 hours and have gotten no missions that will advance the story. I did Bleed out. Save Roman at the park and then chase the guy down and beat the crap out of him. From there on it's nothing. Heres my typical GTA session. go out call michele go out take her home "How about some hot coffee" "Sorry it'll cost you 25 million" "Well how about a kiss". I've had that same conversation 5 times. Then Call Roman do something take roman home. Drive around a hope and pray I find something that will advance the story. Nothing. Go to the apartment save game.

I know GTA isn't all about story it what you are about to do but as far as this great story I've been hearing about.... I haven't seen 1 ounce of it in 4 to 5 hours of game play.

Anyone know how to initiate some story missions or anything?? Also I don't have the story on silent in my cell phone.

Maybe you're just not a ladies man! I was able to get some "hot coffee" on my second date with her!

I finally started playing this last night. I forgot just how much of a blast it is to play GTA. I went on two dates with Michelle and saved Roman from the 3 thugs from the park. After that, I just drove around and caused chaos! I haven't got too far in the game, but so far, I'm enjoying this far more than San Andreas.

As far as the driving, I have no problem with it. The driving aspect of the game feels the same to me as the previous GTA's, although the steering in the trucks and SUV's feels more loose. I hadn't played a GTA game for years, so it felt kinda odd driving at first, but after a few hours, I got back in my groove. Maybe that's what some of you guys are experiencing - not playing GTA for awhile and having to get use to the driving again.

Maybe you missed when Vlad called you, but there should be a V on your map where you should meet him for missions in the main story.

This sounds like a game whereby I could sit down for an hour or so and have fun. Is progression in this game solely dependent on being a good gamer in that you complete missions (finish A and move to B) or can you simply play for hours on end without 'solving', or 'advancing'?

Go after Vlad & your story shall resume.

Both. As far as the story, yeah, you'll have to complete missions in order for it to advance, which will open things up even more, like the removing of blockades on the freeways that lead to other cities. Or you can just cruise the streets and cause havoc for hours on end, which I did last night. Just ignore incoming calls on your cell, unless you want to hook up with Michelle and go on a date, which aren't missions. Once you go on the second date with Michelle, you'll be able to go bowling or shoot some pool whenever you want.

So are the taxi missions gone from this game? I carjacked a taxi and there was no option to take on fares.

If there was a V on my map I would. I have nothing but the bowling place, the clothes shop, the first strip club, the darts place, the pool place, and a couple bars and Romans R.

As far as not being a ladies man... I could car less about that achievement, I just want to get on with the story. Is there someone I'm supposed to call or somewhere I'm supposed to go to initiate the event that gets the V on the map?? The life span of this game in my house is getting shorter each time I play it. I really want to enjoy it but when theres nothing happening its pretty hard.

Go to the R(Roman and the taxi stand) and that should trigger Vlad. If not, delete your game save and start a new one. I had problems with the Vlad story line not triggering and that worked for me.

If you have advanced far enough with Roman, he will offer you to do taxi jobs for him. Its under Roman's name in the cell phone.

Go to Romans or call about a job.

You have 2 options on your cell

Call him directly or scroll down to JOB. Click on JOB & continue to pick up people for him. You'll soon enough meet Little Jakob & thats where the story, new contacts & jobs pick up.

THAAT DID IT! Which would make me what we call people up home.... "stupid!".

Why I didn't think to just drive to Roman is beyond me. Thanks for pointing out the obvious guys.

This game is already taking up way to much of my life. I'm at 19 and a half hours already I just can't put it down. I'm always just telling myself one more mission and then it ends up being 2 am. I swear it's like crack.

heh, me too. I've got 20 hours in and only 26% of the game complete.

I do the same thing, "just one more mission" and then I end up hijacking a dump truck and smashing into people and stealing their money. I don't know why that never gets old, but it's fun. Throwing malotov coctails at police is entertianing for hours alone!

malotov coctails reminded me of this for some reason. Well I guess cause I have yet to buy & try them out..

I capped the gun dealer yesterday & 3 others came out blastin. Took them out & than cops just showed up out of know where one by one. Wasted all my ammo guarding the door & took about 20 cops down before they finally killed me. Good times.

Where's the helicopter? I did the joy ride thing with Brucie, can I get back up there?

I'm 26 hours in and 33% done.

Another (distraction) is crashing your car up multiple time until it catches on fire, then drive it really fast toward an intersection and jump out. BOOM!

Its on the south east corner of the middle island, youll have to kill the pilot to get it and then just have at it.

I've been drinking a lot of "warm coffee" over the last week if you know what i mean

While in free play, my friend and I decided to recreate the last scene from Die Hard 2. He drove in the helicoptor with me over to the airport and I tried to jump out and land on the wing. It was really fun, but I died.

Well it only stands to reason. Your not Bruce Willis ya know!

Now thats I've gotten into the story I'm having trouble spacing out story missions and just screwing around. Been trying to find an easy way to get the walk free achievement. I take it you can't just hid out and have the cops .... ya know.... give up? I tried going to the airport to initiate the 4 stars and can get aways from the airport easy enough. however staying gotten away is the hard part.

I was having a hell of a time trying to get the wheelie rider achievement cause I couldn't find a damn motor cycle suitable (choppers don't work) then on day I was driving down the street and "Oh shit theres a motor cycle I can use!!". Turned out to be a scooter. It worked though.

No, it wasn't a race, just a joy ride.

I'm doing the union construction workers thing for X right now, the game seems to be getting quite a bit harder. I'm on my fourth try.

I finished that one first attempt. It is hard though, just gotta cap anything that moves. Grenades work well when the game puts ya undercover. You might want to go to the guns dealer & get a vest before that mission.

I also found the Heliport. Its located on the map too for easy nav.

Right now stuck on the mission where you go to an abandoned hospital to collect coke which is ofcourse guarded heavily but thats not the best part. I got through all the dealers, (15 or so), got the coke, & than you are completely surrounded by S.W.A.T. Happy, Happy, Joy, Joy. I have 2 attempts at this mission.

First, (pure luck) made it out of the labyrinth hospital & actually made it to a vehicle before getting shot down cause the car was indeed locked. Second attempt, didn't even make it out of the labyrinth err.. mean hospital.

edit

Forgot to mention, I took the helicopter all the way up & jumped out when I was above water. Apparently you can free fall thousands of feet into water & live.

Just run right into water. There is a boat right by the dock which you can hop into and easily get away from the police.
