A bit more details:

E3 2008: Microsoft/Xbox Press Briefing Live Blog - Xbox

Ooh, one more clip to tease a new Square Enix announcement.

Tom, 12:03 am—Yeah, it's Final Fantasy XIII for Xbox 360. Some totally ridiculous looking CGI trailer made the crowd go nuts. We will be looking at that later this week, so we should be able to tell you more then.

Andy, 12:06pm—Mattrick finishes presentation of FFXIII by saying "...former PlayStation franchises finding a new home on Xbox 360." Ooh, smack talk fired across Sony's bow to end the conference.

This news is huge. I don't know how Sony let that exclusive get away from them. But I'm sure that MS spent a lot to end the exclusiveness of that title. That buyout plus the money FF will get from all those 360 owners was enough to turn the tide. Wow, does Sony have any real exclusives left for their console? MS has pretty much poached all the big titles.

It will be exclusive in Japan to the PS3, but in english speaking countries it will be multiplatform.

That is one way both Sony & Square Enix can save face with the Japanese public, I recon, especially with the small 360 userbase in Japan.

I don't really care as I own both systems, but it's cool for those wanting to play the game and not get a PS3. With this and the 3 or 4 good JRPGS on the 360 already, Sony is losing a key factor in their success (exclusive Japanese support).

I hope it doesn't delay the game in the US even further than usualy though... they say 360 development won't even start until the game is out in Japan.

I'm still playing it on my NES at home. I've had other distractions, but I am still geared up to face Lich, the Earth fiend.

I guess I don't get why this is suck a big deal. FF and Resident Evil where 2 franchises that just looked like they where 1 trick ponies that have carried on way to long. All the FF trailers thoughout the years have looked the same to me. The new resident evil game trailer looked cool though.

The reason why its a big deal is because the traditional main-story Final Fantasy games have been exclusive to Sony consoles for over 10 years. The fact that this exclusivity period is now over demonstrates that Sony is no longer in the position of dominance they used to be in the gaming world.

Personally, though, I am more excited about Too Human

Personally, I thought Sony would never get in a position of dominance period. When they released the PS1 back in 95, I figured it would go the same route as Panasonic's 3DO or Atari Jaguar.

This is big news for owners of the 360 who are fans of the series. Me, I think the series took off to fast & I became uninterested as time went on.

ganthc,

Ya still have an operational NES!

Certainly a blow to Sony (haha). Huge news. RPGs aren't my type of game so I won't be buying this when it finally comes out. My wife will buy it though, of that I've no doubt.

Yeah I was psyched about the demo. What a huge let down. To many good things coming out in the next couple months, this was supposed to be one of them. To bad they couldn't have put a better representation of the game out.

Yes, I do. It, of course, requires the blowing to make the game work, but that was standard even back in the day. It is the same system I got back in 1988, when my dad bought me the Power Set bundle, which included the Power Pad. My game had Super Mario Brothers, Duck Hunt, and World Class Track Meet all on one cartridge. That stupid Cheetah always cheated, in my opinion.

I still keep playing my NES from time to time when I want to enjoy some old fun games.
