Half-Life for free (sort of)

Electronics Boutique has it for $20, and there's a form to get a $20 gift check (good 'til April 15) for use at the store:

They also have this deal on retail/boxed Counter-Strike, but that's worthless to buy, since if you buy Half-Life, you can simply download CS for free.

I bought a copy because one can never have enough Half-Life/Counter-Strike CD keys.

Be prepared for a wait though. I still haven't recieved my $20 EB gift voucher from when I bought Starcraft a month or two ago.

(Also, I doubt if this price still holds but when I bought Half Life Platinum Pack (whatever its called, the one with all five HL games and expansions) it was only $17 give or take.)

I've sent away for quite a few gift checks in my time. Sometimes they come in a month, sometimes much longer. Thankfully, they seem to always get here eventually.

I have a home LAN (3 client PCs plus a Linux firewall/router) hooked up to the net. HL used to allow me to use the same CD key on multiple machines to play over the net as long as it came from the same IP (which is what happens on my LAN using IP Masquerade). But they foiled that with a patch that came out in the last two years, so I have to use different CD keys when I have friends over to play CS.

Incidentally, the Blue Shift CD key also works in HL/CS (it also has all numbers), but the stand-alone Opposing Force (mix of numbers and letters) does not.

I think I strayed from the topic...
