Can't switch on Planet of the Apes (2001)

I can't switch to the commentaries, the subtitles, the angles, and audio while watching Planet of the Apes (2001). Do you have to watch the whole movie before being able to switch?
I can change everything on my other discs, it's only POTA that doesn't work.
My player is a JVC XV-S40BK, if that is any help.

well some DVDs you can switch audio, subtitles on the fly. Some DVDs you have to go to menu and make your selections, and they usually have a Resume Movie thingy to click on and you go back to where you accessed the menus. Di$ney DVDs are notorious for doing that .
