Planet of the Apes 2001 sound glitch

I got the POTA 2001 DVD last week and there seems to be a sound glitch around 17:05 on the Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Is this just my disc or is it common to all?

I get this glitch too, and I find it damn annoying. It seems a lot of other copies are like this too, other people also complain. So far I do not know if this problem is on all copies manufactured, or only some. Anyone know what is the deal here? Fox going to do something with it? This is extremely crappy QC if you ask me, as this clearly is a disc problem.

Btw, what is kind of funny, I emailed some of the authors of online reviews of this DVD, asking if they got the glitch also, and all of them did. But none of them wrote anything about it in their review, instead saying the audio was perfect and flawless, which basically is a lie. I wonder why.

I tried the disc on numerous different players getting the same glitch, which is why I think it is a disc problem. Pioneer DV-505 (old), Pioneer DV-343, Panasonic RP56, Toshiba SD-1700, Toshiba SD-2710 and some truly low-end no-name players (the ones which basically is a DVD-ROM mounted in a case).

Hey All,

I have a new RCA DVD player and so far, no glitch at all. The same goes for the other glitches mentioned about APES DVD.

I've had this player for almost 2 years and so far, I'm very happy, no problems what-so- ever.

Maybe It can be the DVD player or the Disc, I really couldn't say. Please keep posting.

Because, my friend, the media lies & they get paid to do so. It's amazing how many people would put aside their personal convictions for a federal reserve note.

I tried my POTA disc in both Dolby Digital and DTS and heard no sound glitch around 17:05. I did notice (and I hope this doesn't sound stupid) that at this point in the movie an ape is swinging on a grape vine which makes at this point and again a few seconds later a 'creaking' type of noise in the background. Could this possibly be what you're hearing or is it something else? Just a thought.

There is definitely a sound glitch at 17:05 on DD 5.1 track - more like a drop out like gittes described.

The DTS 5.1 track does not have that annoying drop out, thank god! However, I did notice on at least one occasion where the sound transition from one scene to the next was not smooth - you could clearly hear a static sound.

I agree with Trond, very poor workmanship on the audio quality of this DVD. It's not the only gripe I have with this DISC - lack of Low Frequency Effects bothers me tremendously!

For comparison sake, my player is a Toshiba SD-2150.
