My Sony DVD player is going all wierd!

Hi everyone, I found out that there was somthing wrong with my sony dvd player when i put in the terminator 1 se and one of the deleted scenes gave me a c13 error i put it back in and it worked fine. put in my copy of the lost world about a few days later and the movie wouldn't start all i got was c13 again i put it back in to give it a spin and it worked fine. yester day i put in boogie nights (the 2-disc one) and when i went to the color bars it froze up on me. i took out the disc and restarted it and it played fine.
and last night i put in shaft(2000) and when i went to scene selections and selected chapter 12 it froze and i restarted it and it played fine. about 8 months ago i had the same model dvd player and after like 6 months of use it broke and i don't want this dvd player to have to go through all of that suffering.Hi everyone, I found out that there was somthing wrong with my sony dvd player when i put in the terminator 1 se and one of the deleted scenes gave me a c13 error i put it back in and it worked fine. put in my copy of the lost world about a few days later and the movie wouldn't start all i got was c13 again i put it back in to give it a spin and it worked fine. yester day i put in boogie nights (the 2-disc one) and when i went to the color bars it froze up on me. i took out the disc and restarted it and it played fine. Well what model sony do you have, i have a DVP S360 for over a year now and i had only one C13:00 message on a rented disc. Some of the newer sony players dont have any problems like the DVP 300 model.

I had the 560D and had the same problem but now it always just whirrs for 30 seconds then says, "Insert Disc".

I have a Toshiba 4700 now. Sony sucks.

I have a Sony DAV-S300 system that I got in June. By mid-July it was giving me a C-13 error on every disc I tried to play. It was under warranty for a year, so I took it to a Sony service center, and the tech told me that it is very common for these things to "blow through lasers". I thought it was a little too soon after taking it out of the box to "blow through a laser", but I had them replace the laser and now it is working fine. I hope yours is under warranty, because this would have been an expensive fix for me if I had to pay for it myself. Good Luck!

i know that the ps2 is sony. i bought it before my dvd player had started screwing up. what i meant to say was that sony dvd players are crap, sorry for the confusion. i will buy another dvd player from another company next time, i just hope that my ps2 doesn't start to display error messages.

Guys, I hate to burst your "Sony Hater's of America" outlook, but my DVD
player is a Sony S7000 (first generation, no less), and I have *never* had any
problems playing any disc back (including a favorite to blame Sony, "The
Matrix"). Also, I have tested most of the problem titles that have been
posted here, and all of them played fine. Sony hit the nail on the head
the first time out, while the other big guys took two or more generations to
get it right (some are still trying.....like To----ba). I do not dispute
your experiences, but my experience with Sony suggests that other
circumstances are playing a part in your problems.

Hope you get your problems fixed,

P.S. I have never seen this "C-13" error many of you refer to (my discs are better taken care of than most children, and I do not rent), nor has my
player ever "blown through a laser" (it is approaching 4 years
old)..........

Better player

Hey fellas, I have the same player (Sony DVP-S560D). I been having minor problems but I look at it this way...Now I have an excuse to get a better, more feature-rich player. Progressive-scan, 5-disc changer, etc...Or maybe an X-box would do. Hmmmm...the possiblities are endless.

I wonder if there are support groups for those like me afflicted with the "Gotta Havit" syndrome.

I've just begun to experience problems with my Sony DVP-560D. I noticed on two disks so far (Pearl Harbor & The Phantom Menace) that once I turn the subtitles on, I can't turn them off without ejecting the disk and inserting it again. It's usually the last subtitle track. Like for instance, the last subtitle track for TPM is the commentary titles that let you know who's talking. Even if I press the subtitles button on the remote to OFF, it still displays the commentary titles. And for Pearl Harbor the subtitles stay on French even though I've turned them off on my player.

These are the only two disks that I've had this problem with, so I'm going to watch some other DVD's I have to see if this occurs. If this persists, looks like I'll be looking to buy a replacement player (mines only a year old).

similar problem w/Pearl

Governor-I don't think the Pearl Harbor problem is necessarily Sony's. I don't have a Sony, yet have the French subtitle problem in the first Japanese scene, as well as a glitch when Affleck is writing to what's-her-name from England.

Proud Sony Owner

I own 3 Sony DVD players and never an error or glitch with any of them going all the way back to 1998.

Every Sony DVD electronics item I have ever own had never failed, never. I have Sony stereo equipment from 1987, still going storng and still looks brand new as well. I do take good care of my belongings.

I do have a few Sony walkman cassette prducts that I did ditch though. Hee Hee. Cassettes are long gone, just like VHS is.

I support Sony and recommend their products to all. To those of you that have had problems with Sony I am sure sorry to hear that.

Hey guys I wish I would have seen this topic, even though I bought my player in 2000. I have a Sony and it's been screwing up recently with the C-13 errors. Sony DVP-S350 is my model number I just took mine into the shop. It worked fine until recently. The first DVD to do the C-13 thing was the Speed SE, now I've gotten quite a few disk that have had it. The weird thing is, is that the disks are brand new, out of the package. No scratches, no dust nothing. Plus they work in my other player. Mine's in the shop now so hopefully it won't be too expensive to get fixed.

I also have the Sony 560D. I got one C13 error from a disc rented from Blockbuster. I cleaned it off and it has been fine ever since.

However, my parents also have the same model and theirs had been giving them no problems whatsoever until now. It would freeze on "The Majestic" and then skip chapters. I don't know if it is still giving them problems. I am almost expecting to have to buy a new player anyway. It won't bother me since I am in the market for a progressive scan player.
