Willow screen freeze and break up

Noone else has posted yet so I'm hoping I just got a bad disk.
On my Phillips DV434 Willow will freeze starting in chapter 18, and then continue to freeze or play broken up through the rest of the movie.
I watched the same parts on my pc. At those points the pc will pause but then play the scene properly. Seemingly it is pausing for error correction and then continuing.

Sounds like the player is getting "confused" after the layer change. Also, I believe the DV-434 is a Pioneer and not a Philips (at least there isn't that model list on the Philips website).

Has anyone else with the Pioneer DV-434 had problems with this DVD?

Peace....

Sounds like you got a bad disc. I would exchange it. See the 'Heathers' thread for very similar problems. I suspect that this is caused by some sort of alignment problem when they bond the two layers together. If the alignment is just off a bit, your PC may be able to compensate for it, since its DVD drive is designed to handle higher speed and can likely handle off-axis material better.

Thanks guys, it does seem like I just got a bad disk. Otherwise all the other Pioneer (good catch tomdkat) owners would have been seeing the same problems. I'll exchange it next week and hopefully that copy will work.

I know that this thread is somewhat "complete
", but I also own Willow on DVD. It played fine. I have a General Electric DVD 1106-PB.

I watched Willow on both my Toshiba and my Panasonic and both played fine.

I exchanged my bad copy, and the new one works fine. I just got a bad disk the first time.
It was rather funny watching the best buy employee struggle with the insane amount of "security" stickers on the case. It took her over 5 minutes to open the replacement copy. In that case Best buy had to pay for the stickers the retailers insist on.

I watched it on my Sony and there were no problems either. Although (and it's not really a concern to me) my player wouldn't allow me to repeat the movie once it played through (you can set the player to repeat the title track over and over).

BTW - great disk, love the movie!

No problems with my copy.

Thank goodness.

Actually, there is a problem with my copy, Lucasfilm didn't put an Episode II trailer on here....

It sounds like a bad disc. I haven't viewed the DVD myself yet, on any player, however I have had a few bad discs and they reacted the way you described.

If there are no visible scratches anywhere on the disc, especially on the printed surface, then look at the outer edge of the recorded surface, you may see a slight discoloration, like a prism effect(rainbow). It is dificult for me to explain what it looks like. This is a problem with the pressing of the disc itself.

Doesn't happen often, but irritating when it does.
