Massive Glitch on Planet of the Apes (2001) DVD

I get a large glitch at chapter 15 which jumps forward sporadically until about chapter 18, then plays normally. The disc is brand new and all my other DVDs play fine on my player. What's going on? Or any suggestions?

I am having this same problem. I've tried 3 discs and they are all doing the same thing. The second disc also has picture and sound distortions but they haven't been consistent from disc to disc as to what features are distorted. My player is a Panasonic DVD-A110. Any suggestions? I've got around 100 DVD's and this is the first one I've ever had a problem with.

Well, I don't what to tell you. I have an RCA DVD player, and have tried it with my POTA DVD and no glitch seems to happen, and I've tried this twice, no glitch. When you said three different discs, do you mean different discs of the same title or altogether different DVD titles?

Three discs of the same title (Planet of the Apes). With the first disc I purchased I had a problem with disc #2-didn't really look at disc #1 all the way through. Went back to store and exchanged for a new disc. Browsed through disc #2 and it seemed fine. When I started watching the movie it was ok until chapter 15-I think this is where it went to next layer. Player kept locking up as I skipped through the next 2 or 3 chapters. Took this back to store and exchanged for a third copy. Disc #2 has minor problems with this copy and disc #1 starts having problems at exactly the same point, but I am able to skip about a minute of the movie. Two other places have the same problem within the next 10 minutes of the movie. After that it plays fine. Do you think it's bad copies of the movie or my player? I hate to keep asking the store to exchange copies and don't know how long they will keep doing it. Thanks for any help anyone gives.

Well, I started watching Planet of the Apes last night on my Pioneer DVL-919 and there was a very ugly layer change at chapter 15, but the movie continued to play just fine after that. I ran out of steam around chapter 19 so I will pick it up from there.

Overall, I think the DVD quality is SUPERB and the movie is ok. I did NOT see this in the theater and it has been SOOO long since I saw the first one that I don't remember ANYTHING at all, except the Apes talked. So, this is like a "first viewing" for me and I think the movie itself is ok. Not sure I'll buy it... (I have the Netflix rental now).

Peace....

Watcheed last night on my Samsung DVD-709 and made it through the layer change with no problems, but then at teh beginning of chapter 25 (or maybe it was 24) it kicked me back to teh main menu. I restarted at chapter 25 (or 24, whereever it was that kicked me off) and it continued to play no problems.

I've never seen the original and thought that, despite some serious plot holes, this was an interesting, thoughtful movie. (3/4 stars).

I got my copy of "Planet of the Apes" the day before Thanksgiving and I proceeded to watch it Thanksgiving night and it got to chapter 9 and it messed up. I restarted the movie and this time it got to chapter 20 and messed up. I took it back to the store the following Friday and swapped it for a (hopefully) new bug free POTA DVD. My new copy worked just great. It didn't mess up like the first one.

Follow up on earlier posts:

Tried the last disc I had - which wouldn't play in my Panasonic A110 - in two other players, a Panasonic RV41 and another-don't remember model. Anyway, the disc played fine in both of those so I guess it's just my machine, not the disc. I know I've played over 100 discs in this machine and all others worked fine, so I don't know if machine is going bad or if it just won't read POTA.
