Anyone explain the following problem???
Can anyone tell me why during some of my R1 DVD's, the sound cuts out for a split second before returning again (only happens when AC-3 track is playing).
I have a TOSHIBA 2107 pure R1 player hooked up to a DENON 3800 by coaxial cable. It only occurs on some films (DIE HARD=THREE TIMES, DIE HARD 2=THREE TIMES, DIE HARD 3=FOUR TIMES, AND EVEN ON THE PHANTOM MENACE IT DOES IT ONCE ). What the hell is causing this????? THE MATRIX plays perfectly! It aint a layer change as I know when this happens. Is it the player? The software? The connections? WHAT??! If someone could shed some light on this problem I would be very grateful. Reply to this PLEASE put me out of my misery! Thanks DannyZuko PS Had this prob with the first T2 release but now it plays OK!? WHY? ![]() |

Welcome to the forum DannyZuko!
![]() Well since it doesn't seem to be consistent (in the case of T2), I'd check your digital cable connection. It might be damaged.

Yeah I did swap the cable around for another but no difference!
The cable I was using is called PROWIRE TRIPLE and is gold plated etc. I got this cable from subscribing to HOME CINEMA CHOICE a few years back and I believe it to be a top cable, but it consists if two cables and may only be for hooking up for example a CD player to an amplifer and not a proper coaxial cable. I have just reconnected it with a cheap and nasty cable and still have the same problem. Can you recommend any coaxial cables? I want them to be high quality but not too expensive. |

Well, any old 75 ohm RCA cable will do.
SO it doesn't seem t be the cable. Does it happen with just stereo RCA connections?

Next, I'd try (if you can) a different player to see if it's somehow your players fault. Or it could be your receiver's. But the player is easier to swap out.

I only have access to a PLAYSTATION 2 which is R2 and if I got them to hook it up to my amp I could'nt try to play my version of the movie on it as all my films are R1.
This is really annoying me because the last couple films I bought (PHANTOM MENACE, DIE HARD TRILOGY ) all have this problem. You see if the sounds cuts out for a sec and you quickly replay that part again, it works fine, but another time it may cut out in a different part of the film entirely. Its as if either the player loses the track for a second then refinds it or the disc isnt properly flagged. Oh I forgot to mention on my copy of A BUGS LIFE the full screen version is fine, but choose the widescreen version of the film and the sound is on and off every couple of seconds, meaning the widescreen version is impossible to watch!. Yet it is fine in Pro Logic Stereo. Also TARZAN COLL. ED cut out a few times so I returned the film for another copy and have had no problem since! OOOOhhh I could rant on for ages.... Hope to hear any findings asap |

Do you have an optical output on your player?
If so, try this one for a change to see if this works out better.

Sorry no, my TOSHIBA 2107 only has a coaxial connection.
Anyway got an email suggesting my amp (DENON3800) may be to blame. It reads as follows: Danny: Does the dropout always occur at the same spot on the DVDs in question? I had a similar problem with the Yamaha HTR-5280 Receiver. In my case, the dropouts were random and occurred at most twice per movie. If I backtracked over the same spot, the sound did not drop out a 2nd time. I tried four different digital cables and three different DVD players so I know it was the 5280. I solved my problem by returning the 5280 and replacing it with the RX-V1000. Matt So maybe my VERY EXPENSIVE amp is just a pile of crap!!!!!! AAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!! :rar:  ![]() |
