Planet of the Apes Freeze - Toshiba
I searched high and low for a forum such as this one which I truly appreciate its existence!
This forum helped me realize that I am not the only poor soul that is having the same frustrating problem with the POTA 2001 when played on the Toshiba SD-2109. It immediately switches to the Enhanced Viewing Mode window at exactly 1 hour 35 minutes. It freezes there, and if you press forward, it skips to about 1 hour 39 minutes. I took the DVD back to the store and the exact thing happens. I sent an email to customer_support@tacp.com (Toshiba Customer Support) on December 4th, but no reply or acknowledgement. I surfed the internet all week until I found this awesome forum. Does anyone have a solution (buy it on video and shut-up! - OR - buy a new player) or must we deal with this type of problem with this particular player? |

Welcome to the forum lou!
![]() I'm not sure if you looked, but there have been several threads on this disc in the forum. You might want to try searching through those to see if there's anything helpful in them. Again, if you haven't already.

Hopefully a resolution to Sd-2109
Thank you 1138 for acknowledging and, yes, I did review the other posts by using the very useful Search feature.
What I did upon recommendation by another forum member is to contact Toshiba. I called them directly at 800-631-3811 and spoke to their customer service. They said that since this model is several years old, it requires a "firmware" upgrade. Supposedly, since I bought the DVD player at Best Buy and I purchased their warranty, they will cover this "upgrade". Is there anyone out there that has put their DVD player through this firmware upgrade? And if so, was it worth it? |

I personally haven't ever tried it, but it sounds like it should go fine, especially if you're not paying for it. You just might be without a player for a while.

lou, I used to have this unit and never really experienced a lot of the problems that have been reported with it. I would tend to agree with 1138. If it's still covered under the warranty, just have it done. I replaced my 2109 with a 3750 and it seems as if the issues the older ones were experiencing are pretty much gone.
I beat my 2109 to death from overuse and it just took it. If a firmware upgrade solves your problem, I'd hang onto it if you don't need progressive scan. The picture was better than a lot of the other players I looked at. Good luck and let us know how you make out. G |
