Evil Dead 2 question...

i was just watching Evil Dead 2 DVD by Anchor Bay DV11188 on my Apex AD-1500 machine and noticed MASSIVE pixilation, since it is mostly night, dark scenes, it is extremely noticable and annoying. checking many websites for reviews of this disk, i found no mentions of this problem, typically getting very good reviews on the video quality. my question is, could this be a bad disk? or more due to my DVD player, cheap $90 Apex? anyone else have this problem? thanks for any feedback.

If possible, try playing YOUR disc on someone else's player to see if you get the same or smiliar behavior and see if you can try a DIFFERENT copy. This might help to isolate the problem.

Peace.....

My beloved Apex AD-500w plays my Evil Dead 2 disc perfectly. I heard something about a bad pressing for one of the Evil Dead 2 releases, but I think was the limited edition...

The original Evil Dead 2 DVD had a lot of this; the THX version has a little, which is probably related to film grain, but is far better. It may have been an isolated incident with the original, too, because mine looked awful but I saw many reviews when the THX version came out that basically said the video is great, "just like the past pressing"...

The orignal Anchor Bay release and the THX AB release are supposedly like apples and oranges when it comes to quality, so I doubt anyone would say it's "just like the original."

I never got to see the original AB DVD, however I do have it on VHS. The new THX transfer is way different, reportedly. The main difference is the THX transfer is much darker than all previous releases. Personally, I prefer the darker look, but that's just me.

Gorgo,

A grainy print wouldn't cause pixelation. Justin said his copy is pixeling.

Justin, try cleaning the disk too, just in case, sometimes a smudge causes pixelation.

If your copy plays fine in another player, then you know it's a compatibilty issue with the Apex player. If you get the same glitch in two different machines and the disk is clean, then you got a bad copy, take it back for an exchange.
