Lord of the Rings bug - please help

Today i went and bought LotR brand new.
I'm a total newbie to DVD's and have only had my player for a month or so.

I noticed that in dark scenes such as the mines (when the goblins are busting in on them) when there are fast movements such as a sword swinging, there is a blurry red trail following it. My player is a Pioneer DV-344.

This bug occurs throughout the movie and is only noticable in dark scenes.

Can someone please explain what this is? is it my player or should i take the dvd back?

Any help/info at all is greatly appreciated.
