Jackie Brown. . . en francais???

The opening titles to my copy of Jackie Brown are in French? "un film de Quintin Tarantino avec Robert DeNiro. . . " I went through and made sure the language and subtitles were set to English and turned off, and I still got the French Titles.......

It's not that annoying. . . since the language track is English, but it is weird. Anyone else get this? or know what's up? French titles that I'm somehow accessing via seamless branching?

edit: yeah, found the English titles. not sure why the French ones popped up. situation normal now.

It's the same thing with the 13th Warrior. You play it in French and they have complete French titles and credits. It's kinda cool. I guess is a Buena Vista/Touchstone thing....

FYI: Jackie Brown CE Trivia Track synch problem

The Trivia track on Disc One seems to be going out of synch for a lot of people.

If you go to 1 hour 1 minute, 19 seconds into the film, the track tells you what movie the people on screen are watching on a TV in the movie. But at this point, it's still a scene with Keaton and Jackie Brown talking...the scene with the TV shows up about 52 seconds later.

This seems to be the point at which it starts, and it does seem to continue after this.

I called Buena Vista earlier today (800 477-2811) and they are aware of the problem and are trying to figure out what to do. If you give them your contact info (not required unless you want a call back) they'll get back to you (hopefully in a week or two) with their decision.

Calling them will also let them know the extent of the problem. They're going to want a code off the back of the DVD and the brand and model number of your player.

There are threads about this over at DVDTalk and the HomeTheaterForum already, if you want to read the experiences of other people.

Just discovered another JACKIE BROWN glitch

In the "soundtrack chapters selection" on the first disc, I noticed that the songs listed don't match up to the songs that they actually link to in the film. The song you choose is not the song the disc will take you to in the film...anybody else expirience this problem?

We will merge all Jackie Brown threads in Glitch exhaust as it looks like this might be a problematic title.

Found this at The Digital Bits:

"In other news, we've got new details for you on Buena Vista's effort to exchange your defective Jackie Brown: Collector's Edition DVDs. For the record, the problem is that on the "trivia" text option, the subtitle stream loses sync between Chapters 10 & 11. The studio is working on a solution and expects to begin manufacturing fixed discs soon. Exchanges can be arranged when the discs are ready by calling Buena Vista's customer service department at 1-800-477-2811. Thanks to Bits readers Jeff K. and Justin M. for reporting on their experiences with BVHE on this."

Jackie Brown disc problem?

Dear Customer

We have been told that the JACKIE BROWN disc that streeted last week may have two problems. The first is that while the box art says it is 2.35:1 widescreen, it is in fact 1.85:1 widescreen. Our site has been changed to reflect that. The second problem occurs with the text based synch track and it has been reported that it does not conicide with the film in later chapters. Check your disc to see. If this is true then you may send it back to us, but please be aware that our stock may also have the same defect. Your other option is to call the Buena Vista DVD hotline at 1-800-723-4763 and they will instruct you how to get a new disc.
Please keep in mind that the movie is still watchable and if these errors don't bother you, then we apologize for wasting your time. As always though, feel free to address any questions to orders@dvdempire.com and we will try to help.

Sincerely

DVD Empire

Does anyone know more about this? I'm at work so can't check my disc.

Trivia track problem

The picture and sound are fine but the trivia track goes out
of sync with the movie about 1 hour in. I called Buena Vista
and gave them my info and I haven't heard a response from
them yet.

I finally watched this DVD last night on my Pioneer DVL-919 with English spoken language and NO subtitles and did NOT get any French anywhere.... I have NOT looked at the extra features so I have not encountered the trivia track sync problem yet...

Peace....

Well, I called BV yesterday and immediately got through to someone. The woman I spoke to was very helpful - she reiterated that they are aware of the problem, and she took my information so they could contact me about a replacement when they are available. I was very pleased - I'm having trouble with my LOTR extras disc on top of this, and I have contacted New Line about that, but they haven't been nearly as helpful so far.

Mr. Tony is quite right about how helpful BV is when you call them about the JB problems. And I just received a callback from them to tell me that they have repressed the discs & a complete new 2 disc set with all packaging is being mailed to me with a prepaid mailer to return the original discs & packaging. Quite different from the Holy Grail & Spy Game discs which the customer had to return & pay postage along with having to wait without the movies until the replacements showed up. 2 thumbs WAY up to Disney.

I've got a Pioneer DV-626D and I've run into two minor problems with the JB disc.

First, even though I set the audio to Dolby Surround in the setup menu, the movie will not play in that mode, and I cannot change it via the player remote.

The movie started with English subtitles the first time I played the disc, but I was able to shut them off manually.

UPDATE: I am an idiot. I misread the packaging and the menu. I need sleep.

I also received a call about my Jackie Brown with the out of sync text commentary. They had wanted me to send back my disc first, because they've been stiffed quite a few times, but they relented and are sending me a replacement first.

Very cool.

My replacement arrived today and is in proper working order. Props to Disney/BV for owning up to the problem and taking care of it quickly.

Dang it; they want me to send the disk back first. I must have sounded untrustworthy cos I tried to plea but they weren't having none of it.
The turnaround time better not be too long!

I didn't plea with them. I merely pointed out that it was their problem that the disc was faulty, and I shouldn't have to inherit any risks associated with mailing the product until I had working copy.

If they had insisted otherwise, they would've gotten a letter from me explaining my dissatisfaction with the way the recall was handled.

Update: I received my new discs in the mail the other day, and all looks good.

Well, I called today for my replacement. They too want me to send mine back to them first. I had called them before with an issue with another Disney disc so they had all my information in their computers and they had me read the "X" code off of my DVD to them.

They said that I'll get a pre-paid mailer to send it back to them as well as a "Consumer Information Form" or something like that. I guess I can't complain since they are paying for me to send it to them. They said I'll get a brand new set and to send them the entire defective set.

If they would have tried to get me to send it to them on my dime, then I would have had a problem.

Reviving thread to report:

I mailed my Jackie Brown disc back to Buena Vista, well it felt like 3 weeks ago but I just checked and it was more like 5 weeks ago.

I still haven't received a replacement, so I just called their number and ... they received my disc but "noone has sent out a replacement yet".

The lady was very nice and they'll be shipping one asap .. but I just wanted to let those of you who may be in the same situation, or had maybe forgotten you'd even returned the disc, know this.

Martin

Bummer that some of you guys are having to do without
until the corrected copy arrives. BV was very helpful to me
with this issue. They sent me a new copy along with a
postage-paid envelope so I could send them the defective copy.
Their service was excellent.
