"My Little Eye" DVD problem
I'm having some trouble with my PAL R2 disk of the movie "My Little Eye".
On disk one you're supposed to be able to play the movie in either "standard mode" or "interactive mode". Standard mode should allow you to watch the film normally, widescreen, with or without commentary. Interactive mode should allow you to watch the film in a small viewing box on the left side of the screen, while keeping track of the film's five characters in small icon boxes on the right side of the screen. This is supposed to simulate the experience of watching the events on a webcast. In order to use the interactive mode you need to enter a 4 digit (0405) code hidden in the disk's package. My problem is, when I choose the "standard mode" I seem to get stuck with the interactive mode instead (although it never asks me to provide the numeric password code). And when I choose the "interactive mode" it also gives me the interactive mode (after asking me for the code this time). I just want to watch the movie the way it was supposed to be seen, not with the fake interactive web-cast thing... however, it doesn't seem to actually be on the disk anywhere. On the interactive mode there is a small icon to the upper right side of the small viewing box that looks like the "full screen" button at the top of a typical web browser window. It is supposed to allow you to open up the image to "full screen" so that you can watch the movie in the normal way... but although it allows you to click on it, it doesn't seem to work. Is my disk missing the all-important "standard mode" feature? Can anyone explain to me how to navigate this disk correctly? Thanks! By the way, I'm playing it on a Sungale DVD8208 multi-region player. Please help! Matt |

Thanks! I'm really curious to see if my disk is missing something, or if I'm just unable to work the thing.
By the way, this is the first disk I've found that has a complete "instruction book" included that explains how to operate the menus. Its a multi-page booklet. |

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I finally watched it over the weekend. I also could not play it in standard mode. Somewhere in the book or on the cover it states that some of the features are not compatible with all players. Since I am using region hacking and playing with pal to NTSC conversion I assume that standard mode wont work.
I wathced the movie anyway, and I thougt it was great. Very different experience in enhanced mode, It really shows off what DVD can do.

Thanks for getting back to me! Glad to know that the standard mode issue might not be just my imagination.
You're right. Standard mode, interactive mode... the movie works well in either. It left me feeling creeped out for days after watching it. My imagination was (unfortunately) working overtime coming up with all the horrific things that are probably in store for the lone house "survivor". Better just not to think about it. Thanks again. Cheers. |
