Lethal Weapon 3: widescreen won't play on my Pioneer player

Yesterday I picked up Lethal Weapon 3. It is in a snapcase with both the widescreen and fullscreen version on each side of the disc. The widescreen version won't play on my Pioneer DVD player. I can't remember the model number offhand as I'm not at home right now. I tried it on my computer and it works.

Has anyone experience this problem before? Should I return it and exchange for a new one? Or is this a problem that is player-specific and I shouldn't even bother.

Thanks!

What happens when you put the disc in? Does it spin up at all or do you get a "disc cannot be played" message and nothing else?

Exchanging it might help. How old is your Pioneer?

Peace...

It spins and then it displays a message that says "DVD Cannot Be Played" or something to that effect. The fullscreen version works fine but not the widescreen.

My player's about 2+ years old.

Thanks!

I've had similar problems with certain adult DVDs that I play in my Pioneer DVL-919, which I bought in Jan 2000.

Inspect the side of the DVD opposite of the side with the "widescreen" text printed on the label for finger prints. I would even wipe the disc down just to make sure there isn't something "confusing" the player.

When I would do this with a certaion adult DVD, my DVL-919 had a 50% - 60% chance of playing the DVD. This same DVD plays just fine in my Pioneer PDV-LC10 and DVD-656a. Ideally, upgrading to a newer Pioneer (if you like that brand) DVD player would "solve" this problem, but see if the "wipe down" helps any. I know, the disc might not already have finger prints or dust on it but try wiping it down anyway.

Exchanging it is another option, but I would try that after the "wipe down" test.

Good luck!

Peace....

I returned it yesterday and exchanged for a new copy. Went home and tried and it works! Looks like it was just a faulty disc.

Thanks for your help tomdkat!
