The Pianist widescreen freeze/jump
I had the following problems with the widescreen DVD of The Pianist: My first copy, bought at Circuit City, froze and jumped within chapter 13; once I stopped and re-started at chapter 14 it ran with no problem. My second copy played fine up until the German officer showed up near the end (not sure of the chapter) - then it jumped back to chapter 13. I played the DVD's on different DVD players, so it's definitely the DVD and not the player.

I had a similar problem on my copy of this movie (Just go the US version in from Amazon.com). Chapter 9 freezes and skips like crazy. Unfortunatly I can't try this on another player...but it is rare that mine (SONY DVP600?I think)won't play a disc.

It happened to me with the first copy I bought (froze during the shot of Adrien Brody in the bathtub, and I had to chapter-skip ahead), but then I got a replacement copy at Best Buy, and it seemed to work fine (I viewed it on a Cyberhome CH-402, BTW).
