Star Wars Episode 2: Help a brother out

Is there anyway I can contact THX or Star Wars by phone?

I have this defective disc of AOTC...it's driving me up the wall. The image problem is in my disc, my friend's discs, and the entire store's discs. I tried replacing it a buncha times, and the same problem came up. It's not hugely problematic but it's real annoying and noticeable. Anyway, the guy at the store suggested calling THX/Star Wars or whatever and asking THEM for a good copy. What should I do? How do I contact them... phone or something? I'm fed up, and I want an AOTC disc that isn't fucked up.

Without knowing your specific problem, I'm not sure how exactly to help you, but THX's phone # is 415-492-3900. Could not find a good contact # for Fox. Good luck.

Is it toll-free?

Unfortunately, I don't believe it is. Sorry. Usually, at the end of a THX film they will show a toll-free number. I just don't have it handy.

What's the problem?

Peace...

It's very strange. First of all it's not edge enhancement or anything having to do with my tv or dvd player. Lemme get that straight. It's a problem with the image. Some of the patterns and edges in the movie are, ahem, doubled over. It's hard to explain. Like for example, in ch.4, you can see the top of Mace Windu's head twice, and so is the table. Like a double image of some sort. Like instead of seeing one dot in ObiWan's eyes, I see two. And there's a trillion moire effects too. The problem's not noticeable in the action scenes, but it's pretty damn annoying in everything else. God, and it's in every fucking AOTC I've seen. Anyone else noticed it? Because it seems my entire area has the problem.

This sounds like "ghosting", as if the second image is like a "ghost" of the main image, right?

If so, this could be related to the TV, even though you believe your TV is functioning correctly. If it were the TV, you would see this kind of behavior on other things you watch and NOT just Star Wars AOTC.

If it were a DVD authoring/mastering problem, others would have complained about this LONG ago. When did you buy your Star Wars DVD? My Toshiba 57HX81 has a "ghosting" problem and I see it on just about eveything I watch, not not on absolutely everything.

Something else to try is take YOUR defective copy to someone else's DVD player and watch that scene on their TV and see if you see the same artifacts you see at home. If you try 50 copies of Star Wars AOTC on the same hardware each time, it's hard to eliminate the hardware from the equation. If you take your DVD to some different hardware (try to get different brand DVD player and TV to try it on) and see the same problems, then the disc is most likely the culprit.

Take your disc to the store and have THEM play it on some of their gear and see what happens.

Good luck....

Peace...

I've done that. I tried my friend's disc, my friends's friend disc, my disc on their's, their disc on theirs, I went to the store and tried it on theirs. Even the store employee tried his disc on his player at home. I did all that shit, and got the same results. I can assure it's not my player or my tv.

Hmmmm... sounds strange to me. Perhaps even the guy who works at the store has improperly caibrated hardware...

Seriously, I don't see the problems you describe and we can do some testing here on Chromy's DLP front projector (DWIN that is Suh-weeet!!!!).

If you like, I can exchange discs with you. If there were "serious" problems with this disc, you would not be the FIRST person to complain as a lot of others would have complained by now (remember the heated debate over whether or not AotC contain edge enhancement even BEFORE it was released).

If you want to try this, send me a PM. Otherwise, good luck contacting Fox for a replacement or some kind of explanation.

Peace...

Well, we conducted a test (simply watched chapter 4) and the video looked very clean and "normal". No artifacting or other undesirable effects.

Peace...
