T2 HiDef License not loading?
Fool that I am, I went and bought my second copy of T2 so that I could get the high definition version of the film. Little did I know that the film maker and Microsoft had conspired to make this an unrewarding experience.
After doing the mandatory "security" upgrades, and setting Windows Media player to automatically get the proper licenses, and setting cookies enabled, the license acquisition screen comes up and sits there until I close it. I have nothing running in the background that might prevent the information from being acquired (I had to disable background programs for another reason), hence no firewall. I've done everything I can think of to make it work (my system is more than capable of handling the data rate and screen format). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I may have overlooked? I would really like to see the hi-def version since that was the reason I bought the DVD (again) in the first place. Thanks |

Assuming that you're running Windows XP--is it a "legal" copy? By "legal" I mean, you didn't "borrow" it from one of your friends (or download it from kazaa) to install on your computer, did you? MS knows how many times Windows XP has been installed and on what computers. They DO keep a database of the serial numbers and whenever it makes you "activate" Windows or Office, they run a check to make sure it's the same computer you originally activated it from. If not, they do turn off certain features..one of them being able to perform updates to the programs. Just a thought....

The problem was solved by Interactual Tech Support. It involved deleting a registry entry and reaccessing the license server.
To my knowledge, Windows XP will stop functioning after a certain time unless the license is valid and the key is acquired from Microsoft. I haven't looked at what happens with pirated copies and "hacked" license codes, so I don't know how Windows would act in that case. In any event my copies are legal. |
