"Sopranos" Season Two glitch
I got this set in January, and am now finally getting around to watching it. I've discovered that episode two, "Toodle-Fucking-Oo," is unwatchable - on my DVD player, when I try playing the episode, it doesn't do anything. I then go into the menu screen and try to access it by selecting Chapter Two in the scene selection. The episode will then only play from about five minutes in on.
On my computer, the episode will only play from twelve minutes into the episode. I checked the disc, and there are no scratches. Since I'm way over Best Buy's ninety-day moratorium (and because the receipt is long gone), I highly doubt I can return it to the store. Is this a known issue with these discs, or am I the only unfortunate one? Is there anything I can do - write to HBO; etc.? Or am I screwed? |

As this is a glitch, I'll move it to the Glitch Exhaust section.
Please post your player brand/model, and what software you're using on your computer.

It sounds to me that you have a bad copy, since it happens on multiple players.
My copy works great, and has since day 1 (street date). As everyone around here knows, I'm a big fan of DVDs about TV shows, and keep up with what's happening with them. I have never ever heard about a general issue like this with any of the Sopranos releases. I think you just got a bad one. Is everything in good condition? If you subtley find out that your local Best Buy has one in stock, you can come back later with this set and say it was a recent present, that you don't have the receipt because your family member who lives on the opposite coast sent it to you after buying it at a BB in their area, and can this store exchange it for a working copy? That usually works. Otherwise call HBO (212) 512-1000 or their distributer, Warner (818) 954-6000. I got those #'s from The Digital Bits' "Surf The Links" section...you can probably find 800 #'s around somewhere. |

OK let's start with the DVD player, I am using a VHT-740 Home theater system with a five disc DVD player.
I know your pain when it comes to the Sopranos disc. Mine glitched in roughly the same place so I took it back to Best Buy and then next one glitched in the same place and I took it back to Best Buy. Now repeat this process two more times until you get a disc that works. My disc and various other discs afterwards just locked up during the oppening of the episode's theme music. I went to scen selection and skipped it over but it still annoyed me. I mean after all, you just bought this disc day one and its already having issues, of course I am taking it back!!!
