Problems with Two Towers Disc 2

Anyone else having problems with the TT extras disc? I've got a Sony 300-something, and I'm getting all kinds of pixellation, freezing, skipping, and the dreaded C:13 error. I tried all kinds of stuff (yes, including cleaning the disc), but nothing worked. I was shocked when the disc actually worked fine in my Playstation 2. Really shocked. I don't know, I had some similar problems at the midway points of two movies I rented over the weekend (Final Destination 2 and Old School). I've got the sinking feeling that my player is crapping out on me, and, rather than wasting the money to get it "fixed", I'm eventually going to have to buy a brand new player...

It wouldn't be a S330 would it? It's definitely your player. That batch of low-end players (S330 and S560D) from Sony are notorious for the dreaded C:13 error. Do a search for your player's model number at http://www.audioreview.com and you'll see what I mean. Also don't bother sending it in for repair as the problem will always recur and your money will be wasted. Your best bet is a new player. I myself have the S560D and while I haven't had many problems yet, I fully expect it to crap out at anytime with a C:13 error. The only good thing about those players is that they don't have the Chroma Upsampling Error or CUE.

Yup, I've read about this elsewhere online and what you have is almost certainly NOT a disc issue. These are classic symptoms of these Sony players about to buy the ranch. Probably time for a shopping trip...

I'm going to dig out my old JVC player tonight, and give the disc a shot on that. I'm not expecting much though, given the fact that I originally replaced that one with the Sony because it refused to play a lot of my newer (at the time) discs. Any suggestions on a good, CHEAP player (ie. brand, specific model)? I know tomdkat loves Pioneer...

I also would recommend one of the new Toshiba DVD players as I haven't had any "semi-first hand" problems with them. Check out the "DVD Player Recommendation" thread in Hardware for discussion about DVD Players and to post your requirements so we can make further recommendations for you.

Peace...

Thanks for the info - I've been checking out the DVD players recommendations thread in the hardware section. Turns out that my old JVC player plays the bonus disc just fine, so I've got it set up right on top of my Sony - for the time being. The next time I get disc that gives me problems on both, or when my Sony flat-out dies, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a new player (probably Pioneer - I remember hearing about a bunch of problems with the older Panasonic & Toshiba players that I'm not sure have been worked out on the current models). I'm already worried about the chapter 51 glitch on disc 1 of TTT referenced on that other thread. So far, the movie's playing fine on my Sony, but I'm only half-way through it. I'll find out tonight.
