Problems with my dv563a
I thought about putting this in the glitch exhaust but Im not sure that its the dvd player thats giving me the problems.
I rented three dvds from Hollywood video last weekend. I towards the very end of at least two of them (we cant remember if it happend in the first one) the DVD would give me an odd sort of problem, I dont really know how to describe. The sound would stuter and drop out and the video would skip and freeze, if I left it it would eventually go back to normal, but the problem would just happen agian. I assumed it was the DVDs I looked at all of them and they were badly smudged and scratched. But today I put in my copy of Die Another Day that was previously unopened, and it happened again, although this time it started in the fencing scene, which is much earlier than the other times. Why I think it might not be the DVD player: First I have had it for more than a month and not had this problem before. When I take out the film and put it back in it happens at the same spot. I swaped DAD for Lilo and Stitch, which we have already watched with out problems. And its still on, and it hasnt given me a problem yet. I have since taken out Lilo and stich and put back in DAD and it happened again in the same spot. Any and all help is appreciated.

These are DVD playback issues so I'll move this to the Glitch Exhaust.
![]() As for the playback issues, I've played Die Another Day in my DV-656a without any problems so the first questions I have are: 1) Does the disc have any dust, lint, or scratches on it? Just because the DVD was previously unopened doesn't mean there won't be dust or other things on the disc. I've had NEW DVDs that I've had to wipe clean before playback. 2) Have you tried another copy of Die Another Day? There might be a problem with the specific DVD you have, as I've experienced in the past. If you like, I can rent this title from Netflix and send it to you and you can send my your Die Another Day and we can see how the discs behave in our players. ![]() I've had only ONE DVD that would not play 100% correctly in my DV-656a and that was a rented copy of 8 Mile. It wouldn't play in my Panasonic DVD-XP30 and was badly scratched. Peace...

Well I tried Pearl Harbor this morning and got a similar problem, the video would skip and freeze, but the audio just stoped, I wonder if this is because it was playing in DTS as opposed to DD?
I thought something might have gotten onto the lens, so I went over to best buy and picked up a dvd lens cleaner, but that didnt help. And I called onecall to see if the warranty was still good, they said only 15 days. And I called Pioneer and they only have service from 6-430 mon through friday. I have no idea what to do.

There are actually quite a few BBs nears here (at least 4), but I bought the player from onecall before BB started carrying it, at least in the stores near me.
Im pretty sure it is the something screwy in the player now, because I hooked up an old interlaced Toshiba player that give me no trouble at all. Someone over at AVS said hes going to bring his back, because hes haveing trouble playing longer cds. He thinks the 563 might have trouble with the outer rim of the disc. But Ill keep you guys posted.

Man, I thought it was just me, but I was watching 8 1/2 and 3/4 of the way through the audio started stuttering. The DD light on my receiver was clicking on and off. I ejected the disc, examined(perfect), and put it back in and no problems. Hmm. Wonder if I should take it in. Only problem so far.

well after I first noticed it, I noticed it often, nearly every disc since the first time. I had did have an audio drop out problem earlier, but that was just a problem with the coax cable I was using.

I had a weird Audio thing happen too with my 563a. I was slow motioning through the Lion King to check for the word "Sex" in the dust cloud raised by Simba (which is hardly there anymore) and when I hit PLAY to return to the movie there was a loud grinding noise! But when the chapter ended the sound played fine. I rewound back and played it again but no audio problems. That bugs me that my player would do that even once! I wonder if the new Disney mix had something to do with it.

I've had my DV-563A for about a month, and I've played at least 40 or 50 discs on it so far. The only disc I've had a problem with is the Animatrix. On chapter 9 (Matriculated), I get stuttering and lockups around the 11:00 minute mark. Disc is in pristine condition (first viewing). I back upand move on and it would freeze, but not the exact same spot, but int he same general area.
I played it on my Philips 793C and did not have a problem. I haven't tried it elsewhere, but so far it seems like my Philips handles errors a little more gracefully than the Pioneer. With my recent defective Fargo discs, my Philips was able to get a little farther before erroring out. Hope it's not the player-I guess time will tell. |

I just got the dv563a at CC yesterday and was not happy to see it getting it's own section in the Glitch Exhaust. I've watched 2 dvds so far with no problem (Throw Momma & Casper SE).
I got lucky as my first ever dvd player, a Philips dvd835 which Tom has helped me with in the past with some freezeups (Hercules, Enemy of the State, Planet of the Apes, Armageddon) & a hard freeze during Dogma SE went into the shop 3 weeks ago & I pointed out those problems & provided the discs to the SamsClub authorized repairman. He recommended a buyback from Sams for the full amount as an upgrade would be more and possibly not fix the problems. So I have a check coming from Sam's extended warranty which will be $10 less than the price of this dvd player I got from CC & is light years more advanced. I am in love with this machine & all I'm out is $40 (I bought the extended warranty of 3 years for $30). I'll keep an eye out for any glitches as have been reported with it. After 3 weeks without a player I've got almost 20 new discs to catch up on (let alone checking out previously watched ones). Last edited by buffalobill : 10-14-2003 at 10:24 PM. |

I also corrected my model in my first post. I listed the Pioneer with the Philips 835 instead of 563. Glad if I can be of help checking. You've been a big help to me since I joined the forum TomD. |

I'm just now reading this post, and it's pretty weird. I had the exact same problem with the 563A with the Scarface dvd, as described in the first post. Audio drop-out and video skipping. I posted on it a week or two ago. I exchanged the disc and haven't had any problems with the new one.
That's the only problem I've had so far, and I've played plenty of disks. It makes me believe that there is something defective with some of these models.

I own the DV-656a and haven't had any of the problems mentioned here, and in some cases that's because I haven't watched some of the DVDs mentioned here. ![]() I WAS able to watch the new Scarface DVD and it played flawlessly. I'll find the Scarface posts here and do more testing. My DV-656a is the predecessor to the DV-563a so I would expect them to "handle" DVDs in a similar fashion. Peace...

I've checked all discs which gave my Philips problems. No hard freeze on Dogma SE. Hercules, Planet of the Apes & Enemy of the State didn't stop where they had before (I've replaced my Armageddon with the Criterion).
As for titles mentioned in this thread with problems specific to peoples 563. Die Another Day, Animatrix Chapter 9 around the 11 minute mark, Lion King, Fargo SE have all been checked and absolutely no problems on any of them. I haven't had time to go through Pearl Harbor & probably won't for a while. I don't know if the problem that was encountered was with the Vista Series (which I have) or the original but knock on wood everything is playing beautifully. |

I have since tried every dvd in a two differnt players (Samsung in my laptop, and an interlaced Toshiba that I have as a back up.) and still non gave me problems.

I noticed the same, or a similar, thing. I think however, its actually a problem with the pause/ freeze funtion on the player. I have mentioned it before, but aside from my glitch, the only thing that I am unhappy with on this player is the pause function, the image doesnt freeze well and the film does not resume well when you take it off. However, since that is way down on my list of important things, I can say that overall I am happy with the player.
Yeah, you're probably right. I was watching T3 last night and tried the pause, slow mo and it got stuck and wouldn't resume or play. After a few presses of the stop button it did. Must be a universal problem with the player. I'll just know that slow forward or slow backward aren't a good idea. I feel somewhat better that is isn't just mine! |
