During the scene when Joaquin Phoenix screams at the statue(Am I not mercfiul) it does this odd pixel thing

Can you describe the "odd pixel thing" a bit? I don't recall seeing anything unusal in my copy and I've watched it several times.

I don't know if it's notorious for it but I think it is on some "DVD rot lists".
