The Island audio screw up, canada only

If you bought or will buy the Island and live in Canada, don't. It only has the french track in 5.1. The english is in 2.0 only. I dont live in Canada but saw this on the bits so I pass it along to you

I saw this too...I haven't had a chance to pop the disc in my player yet. This isn't a good month for us DVD buying Canadians. Fantastic 4 was fuct, no DTS on Sin City and now this. This sucks and there is no exscuse for it.

What is wrong with the Fantastic 4 DVD? (not like i'm going to buy it or anything) I did buy the Sin City dvd even though i knew about the missing DTS (sent a letter to Alliance Atlantis) and i heard about The Island being screwed up in the audio department. Looks like a dvd i will have to wait on getting during the next DDD.com sale.

Its sad because the Eglisg 5.1 track is listed and well many letters should be sent off to Universal about this.

Apparently, the FF4 DVD is missing scenes on the Canadian release. Sounds like they used an alternate version of the film that was shown over seas. Who did you send your e-mail to at AA regarding Sin City? I'd like to send one regarding the lack of DTS and the French title card at the beginning of each segment on the recut version of Sin City.

There is an excuse for no DTS on Sin City, as I explained in another thread. There's not enough room for both the DTS and French audio tracks. Since they more or less have to include a French track for Canada, DTS had to go. So you can thank your French speaking countrymen for the lack of a DTS track on the Canadian version.

Fucking hell. I just got both Sin City & The Island this morning, both Canadian R1 versions. Losing DTS on Sin City is bad enough, but to drop the English 5.1 track in favour of a Foreign language dub is a colossal fuck up. Why not have French 2.0 & keep the language the film was fucking made in as the 5.1 track?! I'm starting to think South Park was right...

I know about the reason for the lack of DTS on Sin City (It suxs but I can live with it as I have the other release of this flick). I was refering to the fact that there is no excuse for The Island screw up.

I guess someone figured French would be the preferred language for the Canadian release.

This does suck for you guys....

I've said it before, "The Island" was my favorite film of the summer and one of the best of the year. Oddly, there was an audio problem at the theatre I saw it in and the digital sound kicked out about midway through. I was really eager to hear it on my own system (and hoping for DTS) and then I read this the day it was released. I haven't bought it, and since I'm going to the states in February I'll probably just hold out for that release.

And yes, I was miffed about "Sin City" because the FIRST CANADIAN RELEASE INCLUDED A DTS TRACK AND I HELD OFF ON IT!!!!!

Can't you rent it, at least? See if you want to own the DVD at all?

Peace...

I got my new DVD in last night and gave it a spin. I liked the flick. The 5.1 was very nice...good bass and the surrounds were very active with both music and SFX.

Just in case you are wondering they sent mine in a thin CD jewel case so it would be protected.

Enjoy yours when you get it.

Well worth the wait!

While not perfect this is a dynamic mix! Surrounds are very active with great seperation and fantastic dynamics - your sub will love it! The not perfect part could be just my ears but in the mix (could be just the master) the center channel could have had a bit more clarity in some spots but on the whole the volume is well matched with the surrounds. There is no doubt that the sound on the movie really adds to the intensity of the action scenes.

Too bad it didn't get the DTS treatment - oh well, I'll wait for the HD to come out
