"No Pal" message on toshiba sd 2109h

Hi,

I have a toshiba sd 2109h purchased in hong kong and brought it back with me to Australia. It plays VCD's perfectly fine, but when trying to play DVD's of various regions, a 'No PAL' message comes up on the screen. The dvd player is supposed to be compatible with both PAL and NTSC tv's so i'm quite confused. Any ideas?

Hong Kong is NTSC, and from the error message it sounds like it doesn't output pal. I don't know anything about that actual player, but that seems like the obvious problem. Does it give you the message only on PAL DVDs, or on NTSC ones too?
