Pulled the trigger on a 3rd SXRD

Well I decided to go the LCD route again, this time with a Sony 60" SXRD 2020
Was thinking about getting the Panny 1080p Plasma but they are too much for me to bank & flat pannels in the same size range are also too much. I briefly looked at a 5th-gen 1080p JVC because it was on for half the price of the Sony, both same size. I don't know why JVC's are priced as low as something you'd find at wallmart. Should arrive Tuesday, here's a pic,

Strange, I just pulled the trigger on a Mitsubishi HD1000U and Greywolf II screen tonight. Something must of been in the air....hehe

That looks like a very nice display. I was looking at some of the SXRD's but they were just out of my price range. Nice PQ though. Demo'd 300 on one at circuit city today and it looked amazing!

congrats on the mits. I went to 3 different stores before buying this set. Each store had TONS of 300's on display (mostly BDs ) which is nice to see. Finally people are taking the plunge into either HD DVD or Blu-Ray. About time!

Though I find reader reviews amusing across the net. Most (if not all) don't own or plan to own either HD format.

Supposedly this set differs from previous models cosmetically only.

If you haven't already, I'd be sure to get the extended warranty on the XSRD. My parents have had lots of trouble with theirs.

That's the exact set my wife and I are going to buy! Now we have to wait for a bit because I just purchased this little baby
While we NEED a new set - my compute conked so priorities shifted fast but I am loving the new toy and can't wait to see the HD prices continue to drop...maybe 9 months from now I will pull the trigger and pick it up

My current TV is a Sony. I also have a PS2 and originally was going to buy PS3 before it was announced BD was builtin. However, that doesn't mean I will buy into Sony products/formats like BD with what is essentially Trojan Horse/rootkit DRM, however

Better to be product smart than brand stupid.

Congrats, I looked at the SXRD's before deciding to go with my Sammy DLP. This TV definitely had a great pictures. I think there must be something in the air with how many new TV's are being purchased.

sxrd's are the shiznit. Course mine's probably inferior in technology terms since i've had it for over 2.5 years now. It still rivals a lot of the newer sets which is good since my wife almost killed me when i dropped $12k on this one. I'm done for a while.....

See, this is why I don't like the new categories for the forum. I come here wanting to read about hd-dvd and blu-ray and have to weed through threads about displays.

Is this your second HDTV or did you sell the other one and upgraded to this?

Thanks & no I still have the 60" Sony Grand Wega.

People I offered it to do not want it. Even when I tell them I'd give it to them free! My dads B-Day yesterday & he doesn't want it either.

dugpa,

I sorta new about these sub forums when I originally posted this thread in the HD software. I don't like the changes that much neither, except the forum layout.

clubsi,

I had some wicked plans a few years back to upgrade to an SXRD projector. At the time they were not released just yet & had an MSRP of $25K US. The first RPTV SXRD I ever saw was a second or third gen which went for $7K. Had no idea they were priced that high!

You really are misunderstood, but you love it don't ya?

Hehehe.

For me, that is a kick butt TV. WOW! I think if I upgrade after the sale of somethig large I will look at this set and Pio Plasma.

Congrats on the SXRD! (even typing SXRD feels sexy!)

Derb,

Yeah, i think this was one of the first gens back in 2004?? Sony called it the Qualia 006. Nice feature set . I believe they only made the 70" version at the time. At the time the 1080p picture was awesome and I fell in love. I know they were also producing the front projector Qualia 004 for something like $30-40k.

Thanks Iggy, hope the sony space ship is still hovering.

clubsi,

Qualia, thats it. The 004 was the first-gen which at that time there was no 1080p & it got released without being able to accept the signal. People who forked over that much dough immediately got upset & Sony offered a hefty $ upgrade. Yep, the 006 was the first ever SXRD RPTV which yet again (Sony messed up) didn't accept a 1080p signal & was only offered as a 70" @ $12K

I love me some SXRD! I have been wanting one for over 2 years now. Currently have the Sony 36 XBR (crt). Big reason for not getting the SXRD is that the 36 is so damn heavy, I don't want to move it.

It still works so I guess I'll have to live with it. Just bought the A2 HD DVD player, so now I really want it!
