Xbox 360 Add-on Question

Just let me know if I am right on this. The 360 Add-on HD Drive will only output 1080p through HDMI? Through component, it will only output 1080i? Essentially, you need an elite to output 1080i?

While I am at it I also noticed that when I watch a movie on my 360 ad-on and hit the info button on my Sammy's remote, it shows (1920x1080i). When I play a game, it shows (1920x1080) - no i or p. Is that weird to anyone?

The 360 HDAO actually outputs 1080p via component, which was a huge selling point to HD fans.

Thats what I thought, but mine only shows 1080i. I have changed the display setting to 1080p in the 360 settings. Is there a specific setting for the drive somewhere? I am at a lose.

Is it possible my TV, Samsung HL-T5687S does not accept 1080p through component, only HDMI. That would then leave the question of whether it accepts 1080p through VGA?

Honestly you are probably best just sending it 1080i & running component. Samsung makes a quality set and I'm sure the TV supports inverse telecine - which would result in little to no difference between 1080i & 1080p in terms of signal transmisison. Probably more a mental thing than anything, I wouldn't worry about it. All the detail in a 1080p signal is fully contained in a 1080i signal, it just needs to be reordered properly by the TV.

As I said in the game hardware thread, I don't think most TVs take 1080p over component.

Also, I was certain I read only VGA and HDMI gave a 1080p signal for movies on the 360, but maybe that was just for DVD upconversion?

Limitation of component input. Why spend the money for a 1080p component input when its not really in significant demand?

because I dont want to spend the money on an Elite. It looks like i might be going the VGA route.
