How many of you own 1080p TV's?

For those that have HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, how many of you own the 1080p TV's? I own a Sony XBR that is 1080i and have wondered if the jump to HD would make a difference. It is hard for me to buy SD-DVD now seeing HD titles of the same movie coming out at the same time. I was one of these "hold outs until one format wins" but I am not sure I can hold out much longer. I am leaning toward Blu-Ray. There's some sweet titles coming out this fall and I am tempted to make the jump. Anyway, just wondering if HD on 1080i is still worth getting HD player for. Thanks.

I have a 1080p display (Samsung HL-S6187W). If I were you though, I'd hold off upgrading for now. Unless money is no object, I don't know that spending thousands of dollars just to go from interlaced to progressive is worth it. Yes, there will be an improvement, but I don't know that the benefit for the cost is worth while. I'd suggest you enjoy the HD formats with your 1080i display and then maybe upgrade in a few years when the technology has gotten even better and prices are even cheapter on the 1080p sets.

HD is worth it on 720p or 1080i. 1080i is till HD, it's just interlaced. The question is whether or not you'll see a difference between the i and the p.

Yeah, I was going to replace my 720p/1080i TV with a 1080p one last school check only to find one of equal quality and size of my current TV would cost me $4000.

No thanks.

I don't own any display device that does 1080P. Yet.

720P native is pretty damn good. 1080i is good, but only marginally better (given the source, type of show) to me so far.

However, I will invest in it soon (within the next 2 years).

No 1080p here yet. Got my 42" 1080i plasma this past December, and don't plan on upgrading to 1080p until the HD format war is decided. Also will likely wait for 50" and 58" 1080p plasma sets to come down in price a lot before I consider upgrading my TV, and waiting for this HDMI 1.3 thing to become standard on new sets.

Mitsubishi WD 65734 1080P DLP. I had the WS 55315, but wanted a 65. When I got mine, the WS line was no more, and I didn't have any choice but to get 1080p

I have the same set as Dugpa - Sammy 6187. I HAD my players running via HDMI to the receiver and then out to the tv. My receiver can only output 1080i signals, so that's how I've been watching my HD discs.

Right now my HT system is dismantled. The sewer line broke about a month ago and flooded some of the basement. Luckily I caught it in time and cleaned it up before it reach any of my HT gear. I'm just waiting for new carpet.

So now I just have the tv and XA2 hooked up. I'm now able to view HD DVD's at 1080p and I see no difference between 1080i and 1080p.

I've been satisfied with 1386x788p rez for quite awhile. last year I jumped into 4 different make/model 1080p rez sets & took them all back. While I had them, I did notice the increased rez difference almost immediately.

I went back to my older 788 set & had been viewing HD in 1080i for another year. While there was a drop in rez, these new HD formats still look awesome in 720 or 1080i

Let your eyes be the judge on wether its worth upgrading to 1080p.

Thanks for your answers. I might be getting myself a little Blu-Ray player for Christmas! My TV is only 34 inches so the difference between 1080i and p will be minimal.

That's the same size as mine and that's also what I decided... I have read to see the difference between true 1080i and p you need a MUCH larger screen than we have.

And I don't need a bigger screen than I have for the way I live (studio apartment FTW).

Got this doing a yahoo search from another board. Some one called Hitachi and this was their response

Quote:
I called Hitachi about the Virtual HD technology. according to Hitachi The Virtual HD is a special video processing computer chip that upconverts the signal to 1080P , but the TV will never tell you that you are receiving a
1080 P signal it will always say 1080I when you hit the info button on your remote
So even Hitachi really doesn't say much, but i have never tried it before but i might try switching out my HDMI cable form my HD-A1 and try it on my PS3 at a 1080p display and see if it works or not (as the component hookup wont allow my 1080p test to happen)

this might take a bit before i can get some results. Due to work and the pain in the ass setup i have right now for my equipment

Feeding my 720p projector a 1080i source (HD DVD) looks phenomenal. I don't think i'll upgrade to 1080p until I have my own house or i'm out of college and in the work force. I know the saying, "it can't get much better than this" is kind of stupid to say, but I am very impressed!

I have a 1080p display and love it but it was also my first hdtv. If I were you, I would just hold onto your current tv for 3-4 more years since the 1080p tvs a few years from now will look even better than the ones today due to advancements in video processing technology and probably have more features.
