I'll give you that this move has if nothing else just further extended the format war and may indeed entice some BD owners to buy a HD-DVD player . But I don't in any way see this as some kind of tipping point .

And in all fairness the format war is not officially over until new title releases on one format have essentially slowed down to a trickle but that could take years . I think both Toshiba and Sony would be very stuborn to give up . I think anyone wanting to get into the HD game now and wanting to be able to watch all movies will have to bite into that sour apple and either wait for a good dual format player or buy a BD and a HD-DVD player .

Hopefully by the time I own a HDTV there will be good dual format players available , that's just easier .

That's a hell of a lot closer than it has been, and the Wii being on top proves it's more about price than anything else.

I don't know what that has to do with this anyway, the 360 does not have an HD DVD player standard, so that's still 159k BD players sold for July.

And people, PLEASE, stop acting like it's all over for Sony... Have you seen their coming soon lists? Looked at overall next gen sales figures which aren't that great for 360 either? Chill people.

Yes, and only a few exclusives, so still no real reason to buy one other than to have a game console attached to a blu ray player.

I don't think its over for Sony. They still sell really good tvs, a/v recievers, and have some good telephones too.

The idea that after less than a year a game console on the scale of the Playstation 3 is over is ridiculous. You don't think Metal Gear, God of War, Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank or Final Fantasy will sell any consoles? You don't think the fact the 360 is stalled and sputtering means people have been holding off on HD consoles altogether?

Come on man.

I just can't believe the PSP is up there in sales. I really thought it was doing terrible.

Lucas has never allowed something like that to tie him down. If for some reason he really wanted to release HD, who wouldn't give a crap if Fox was BD exclusive.

Personally, I think he should hurry up and release in both formats. They would make a ton of money right now. Who knows how long this war will go on. Longer than people seem to think. We could be waiting years for Star Wars in HD.

Some, but without the exclusivity that the PS2 enjoyed its not going to haven early the same impact.

Not really, no.

I don't know what this means, all of those are exclusive as well as dozens more. New IPs abound like Lair, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Haze, etc. are exclusive this year with tons more later.

If you meant the PS3 does not have as many exclusives as PS2 I would say of course not, not yet. Give it time. Market dominance like the PS2? Probably not. Success? Absolutely. More sales than 360? Probably in the long run, we'll see.

Then you're not paying attention. High prices and a focus on HD gaming, something a small percentage of gamers could enjoy, is preventing the 360and PS3 both from being huge sellers. 360 has been sitting at 10 million almost all year... I hope Christmas gives them a good boost or the Wii might take over, and I think the Wii is complete shit.

Well I would never buy the Wii simply because Nintendo has too many games for the kiddies .

But back to HD it took many years until Lucas released the Star Wars films on DVD , so I think it would unfortunatly be no different on HD . And if Lucas insisted on releasing his movies on both then I guess he would have to kick Paramount in the ass to release the Indiana Jones movies on Blu-ray too .
